Please advise on troubleshooting my connection

I am currently having very bad lag on my PS3 only, and it's very puzzling to me how the game can run so well on both PC's in the house, but on the PS3 the game lags terribly and is unplayable.

Previously the game has run very well on the PS3 but for the past 1-2 weeks the game is not playable due to severe lag / freeze ups and disconnects (error 90,000) on PS3, with no signs of improvement. In fact the problem was the opposite around the time the game released - I could play without lag on PS3 while the PC was un-playably laggy.

I can't understand how the connection on PS3 vs PC can be so different on the same network? Surely the PS3 and PC connect to the exact same game server?

I'm with orange broadband and did suspect throttling issues when the PC was lagging over a month ago, but now I don't know what to think as surely throttling would affect the game on all systems in the house?

Can anyone help me diagnose where the problem lies and whether I can fix it on my end (or if changing ISP would help). I don't know what information / tests to do so please advise and I'll post extra info.

Any help will be really appreciated, and thanks in advance.

    This is an ongoing issue.

It's a Square Enix problem, not an ISP. The technical answer is they didn't do any research for their networking, and there is a problem in Canada with a backbone, more than likely.

    Don't change your ISP.

Thanks for the response Andy. In a way I was hoping it was something on my end so I could fix it. Hope Square-Enix get it sorted ASAP. Pretty annoying By the way, I'm in UK playing on Phoenix mostly. Not sure what backbone is in terms of networking, but I guess similar issue in UK + Canada.

Does this mean the data goes through some different path from the Phoenix server to the PC in my house than from the Phoenix server to the PS3 in my house?

Just a quick update. I wired my PS3 into the router last night and played completely lag free for a few hours, so I think in my particular case there could be an issue with the wireless setup.

As the game plays fine wireless on my PC, I checked the NAT mapping table on my router settings, and it seems that exactly the same ports are being opened for the PS3 vs PC. It's confusing how the wireless connection worked perfectly on PS3 a few weeks ago, but now only functions well on PC and not PS3. Anyone got any ideas what's going on?

wireless can sometimes cause issues. There is so much 2.4ghz noise in the air, that its easy for issues to arise.

It is possible a neighbor got a new router and is on the same or close channel as you. Try changing the channel your broadcasting on. 6 and 11 are usually defaults. So being on 4, 7,8 are often the best.

You can use a program like http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/ to scan to see what channels are open around you. and then pick the best option.

It could depend on various factors.
Your PC may have an N WiFi while PS3 only uses B/G.
Where your PS3 is there could be other WiFis creating conflicts.
PS3's WiFi hardware might just be bad.

He would need something to use on PS3.
If you have an Android you can use https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....wifi.analyzer to check channels around your PS3. Maybe for iOS there is a similar app.

Thanks guys, this sounds like it could be the issue, I'll definitely try the android app and change router channel tonight.

Note that the PC and PS3 are about 3 meters apart in the same room, so not sure why the PC is not having wireless issues (perhaps the network adapter is better on the PC), but I'll try anyway and keep fingers crossed.

I can always keep the wire in, but wireless would be much easier if I can get it sorted since I'm renting the house, so thanks for the tips.
