hhmm.. what do i do with this fish?

hey, so leveling my fisher i have come alone with some fish that online doesnt no seems to know a use for them... (mainly gamer escape and eorza app)
so far:
chub
gudgeon ( http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Gudgeon )
dwarf catfish

there is no point to put them in the market.. so, just sell them to npc? anyone knows any use to these? or another source??

1. how do i know which fish can be use as bait? cant figure out how to know that a fish that i catch can be bait (meaning before turning it into a bait by recipes)

2. There are fish that have differrent "grade" e.g. http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Crayfish .. but i dont get why would someone would like a higher grade; it seems that u need more perception (especially to make it HQ quality) and the recipes dont seem to distigue between both of them (based in akchemist and culinary recpies up to lvl 30)

ah ha there is that dwarf catfish! they wanted it for a GC supply mission so there IS a use for the, i had no idea where to get them.

yea... i have like 20s of them, will gladly given some to you .. might sell some then .. maybe they do sell...

guess i ll save my dusk goby HQ, as well in case us a GC quest (otherwuse it is only use to cook a bait, that is no HQ possible..)

I'd keep all the HQ and sell/trade the NQ if i were you, maybe they'll be useful in the next patches (imagine a nice singing dwarf catfish on the wall of you're FC's house!).

FYI, I don't remember this fish and I can't check at the moment but I believe only stuff that crafts into something has a label that says "Crafting Material" under its description. Anything else that doesn't have "Crafting Material" on it is intended to be sold to NPC, at least for now. Also they might end up being the Grand Company turn-in items but I found it better to just go after the fish after seeing it requested rather than holding on to random fish on the offchance they might be the next one for turn-ins.

@crisger: i think i catch them all in middle noesca at nym river with crayfish ball... (try confirming this c link above, is a pretty neat database for ff14)

OMG... for the life of me, i dont get mooch... is suppose to be only available by lvl 25? or is there some other thing im missing, this guide put an sample "from right the start" under mooching... and i dint see any mooch sign

The recipes that use an item can use either the normal or high quality version of that item, but using the HQ ingredient gives a boost to the quality rating on the synthesis, so you have a better chance on getting a HQ result. (You have to select the number of HQ ingredients you want to use in the crafting window. By default, it will use the normal quality ones.) Oh, and you can also get more XP for the synthesis based on the quality rating, regardless of whether you end up with a HQ result.

As Estellios pointed out, any fish that has "Crafting Material" in its tooltip can be used in some recipe or another. Fish such as Dusk Gobies, Dark Bass and some other can be crafted into bait. There's also fish that can be Mooched to catch larger fish, but only certain ones of those can be used.

HQ fish are worthwhile to have as your Grand Company turn-ins will reward you 50% extra XP for them if you turn in all HQ for what they're asking. They also boost your starting quality for any of the fish that are used in crafting recipes.
