Well if they wanted mass appeal and 20 million players like WoW they shouldn't have made the system requirements so high. I think thats a big part of WoW's success, you can run it on your toaster it's not just down to the quality of the game.

FF will have a large audience but MMO's are very competitve and there are lots of them. I think XIV will me the marmite of the MMO world. You will either love it or hate it. It will always get mixed reviews.

Excellent point. The system requirements should have been a lot lower. And they could be a lot lower. That, obviously, is one of the things that should be a higher priority. Really, my own view on this matter is that this game should appeal to as many people as possible. Because if it did, it would appeal more strongly to me. And it's easier to spend time on something that has mass appeal. And it's more satisfying, and easier to share with others. I would like the dev team to realize that they alone determine FFXIV's success, and not the market.

This. The system requirements are ridiculous, but they should have expected a limited audience because of it, and I am sure they did expect it. However, with the release on the PS3, hopefully this will change. I know for a fact that when XI was released on the PS2 there were thousands of new players because of the counsel. Hopefully the same will happen with XIV if the team can successfully fix the game.

It's interesting to see the battle/armory system was praised, but you should just forget about the "Tanaka's vision" : he was producer, not director/game designer/battle director/lead something.

The only thing I can see that I should forget in the future is your opinion since you clearly have no idea what a producer is. Have you been mystified about how the game has changed since January? Did you notice there is a new producer? On a less confrontational note, it was very interesting to see the praise. I was very surprised when I read over these old reviews in light of the last few days' information from the dev team.

They're getting rid of the system where we can switch weapons on the fly instead of having to go change our class like in FFXI? What the fuck is wrong with SE?

I don't know, what is wrong with you? Where did you hear that? Why would you possibly think they would be changing it to make us go to our non existent mog houses to change classes? I have heard nothing like that.

It's okay, OP, I'm nervous too. After we all download patch 1.18, we are going to be practically playing a new game. It's sad because we have spent 8 months with this system, and we know it has been praised and rightly so. The armoury system has it's problems that could have been corrected, but now instead it appears they are just going to streamline everything and alter what was 'okay' and ignore a lot of what was considered 'bad.' I honestly don't know how this is going to go...and I'm trying to be optimistic. It's difficult though because through all these rough waters of development, I've still had a lot of fun with this game as it is. (Frustrations too, but if I had fun at all, that is important.) I don't want that fun to depart into something that possibly has less potential to be different and enjoyable.

yes, it is disturbing to see the items praised in game to be the first things removed and redone in game while the things that were complaints go without being touched.

The critics may have praised the Armory system, but it was the players who clamored and complained insisting that things become less ambiguous and roles become more defined. I guess this is what happens when players get what they ask for?
