Um... yeah... its clicking X again. It automatically focuses on that one and will return to it after using the dpad and using an ability on a target (other enemy/party/chocobo/pet).

if thats what focus target does...Focus target is not the same as lock on. Focus target behave the same as if you have a mob selected, and then use up/down arrows to highlight a party member, then cast a cure on them. After the cure it will revert to your focus target. It is a very nice feature. Focus target boss, switch around mobs or players. As soon as focus is lost on your current target it reverts to the boss.
Target lock on the other hand is an evil abomination that locks your camera and movement to the target and is mapped to the worst possible place on the controller guaranteeing you will hit it when you are trying to move out of an AOE rapidly.
this in entirely correct, I do this all the time

Unless it says:
"Focus Target
Mob"
In its own little UI element and you can freely move targets (say as a healer) and it still shows up, it's not the same thing.
type:
/focustarget <t>
not /focustarget
you need to give it a target.
as a healer, fighting primals or bosses i am on my tank and type
/focustarget <tt>
so i can see what buffs and debuffs the boss has
edit: i cannot believe this made it to page 2 without an answer >.<
