    Skill Chains and Magic Bursts - Combat coordination

    There's something missing from combat in FFXIV. As things are, interaction between players during combat is just like every other "holy trinity (tank/healer/dd)" MMO out there. Tanks worry about positioning and mitigation, DD worry about dealing damage without pulling hate, and healers worry about healing tanks and DD that take hits. All while everyone tries to stay out of puddles. You can find these kinds of challenges in tons of other games.

    Meanwhile, the Skill Chain & Magic Burst (SC/MB) system from FFXI was a FF unique combat mechanic that gave great rewards to groups capable of time-sensitive coordination. I recognize that 1) FFXIV shouldn't be an FFXI clone and 2) FFXIV combat is a bit fast for the SC/MB system of yore, but I think there's room to mingle the SC/MB concept with Limit Breaks.

    How so? As you said, combat is currently too fast for skillchains and magic bursts to be possible with regular weaponskills and spells. Unless they gave everyone individual limit breaks, which they said they would not, then you have nothing to Chain together.

    I really miss skill chains. It made players work with each other and learn skills. Sigh, I understand the system of leveling in 11 was to slow for people playing now a days, but I still miss it.

    the developers need to cave-in and just make the decision to make the combat fun and party-based. skillchains and magic bursts are totally possible, they just gotta change the way they work a bit.

    Current skills, in terms of MP/TP, are used too frequently for this type of coordination, but it's not hard to imagine new skills with higher cooldowns or mp/tp costs that could then be used for inter-player combos/skillchains.

    If you had a 500 TP skill that could chain with people, you could slow down your tanking rotation to fit the skill chain in every 5 mins.

    Well they shoulddddddddddddddd.

    Speaking of hate, remember SATA > MB? Look at the coordination! I miss it! I'm not saying this game has to be the same, I just want /some/ unique inter-player combo system! Throw in placement, elemental/type damage, and hate redirection - Holy Crap! We've got ourselves and awesome combat coordination mechanic!

    XI also had a lot less input from the user. In XIV input is given every 2.5 seconds about, or 3.5 if you're a mage. Where as with XI, input was giving maybe every 30 seconds, 45 seconds, and then maybe 5-10 second if you were a mage. So it's hard to really say that SC/MB "coordination" was all that hard cause the reality it that system was just a waiting game for everyone to be ready to do an ultimate attack and in the end was easy enough to pull off because you didn't have much more responsibility than to do burst dmg.

    You need more haste/storeTP if you were waiting that long.

    On topic: I think it's possible to have SC/MB type system in XIV, but I don't see SE putting it in.
