    [dev1080] Ifrit battle

This is a chance to add in a story related challenge to the players, and I for one hope that it happens.

I'm talking about walking into it and being obliterated due to not knowing strategies to defeat him. Having to take a step back and go, hmm ok guys maybe we should try this... To feel a sense of accomplishment, there needs to be difficulty, and have us hanging on by the skin of our teeth. Nearly one shot the tank with magic DMG if you must in order to accomplish this, creating a sense of urgency, perhaps forcing us to use those elemental attributes that we have been given.

Most of have witnessed Ifrit already, now show us what he is capable of so that he lives up to the lore that has been given to us.

Feel free to discuss further battle ideas, as I am sure others have their own.

You know how when diabolos was first released people would go against him without a strategy and everyone would die with the primal still being at 50% HP? I want that.

If you have to deal with enviromental changes and add-ons while fighting ifrit, even BETTER.

Like lava pouring down in certain spots or something like that.

wow why do i have a fking exam when all this great news comes out.

My only suggestion is to keep the fight extremely far away from the r46 mission and I agree with Majidah, it should be as tough as Diabolos was first time.

Is it possible that summoner is one of the unlock-able jobs? And as such we must fight Ifrit in order to summon him?

I do hope the battle evolves in stages instead of just picking one place on the battlefield and staying there hitting him 'til he's dead. I'd like to see him make use of his agility with a lot of special highly animated attacks, e.g. ariel AoE meteor/fireball attacks, carving runes on the ground to get the hell away from before they explode, or a fiery 360 degree long range flamethrower attack with the only safe spot being directly underneath him. Anything like this that makes us move around for optimal positioning at all times during the battle would be nice.

I do remember the Diabolos fight, and yes it was difficult. I would love that difficultly to return. I've seen it in quite a few places through the FF series. Fights that require elemental abilities, or else you would be doomed with standard attacks. It gives classes a chance to shine in what they do best.

Ifrit should also have breakable parts. Seeing that he is a story related fight, breakable parts should influence the battle, either giving the party a needed moment to recuperate, or increased damage output by lowering his defense. There's lots of options here. Look at the the Airship Battle of FFXIII for a good example.

SE, this is a chance to do something great by creating a very FF feeling fight. I'm sure it will set up future content as well. It is nice that we have been able to Solo the missions up until now. At certain points though, we need a big bang that requires adventurers to band together. This should be the first of many.

You mean the sense of accomplishment of looking up the fight on Eorzeapedia and executing it correctly? ><

I'm a believer in situational skill. I'd like to see a challenging fight where players can improvise skillfully and win, while not necessarily having to react to cues.

I certainly do not want to be able to look up fights in order to win them. If a boss has a certain amount of skills such as the player, it should be able to adapt to what is being thrown at it.

    IE:
Large melee attacks, it throw up Protect and proceeds to use Magic based skills against your party.
If it's mage party or heavily magic based group. It could throw up Reflect, or Shell and hurl giant rocks at you instead.

It would help negate the effects of having optimal "party setups" that you can usually find.

battle strategy guides are written by players who figure out how to beat the fights the same way you could.
and these strategies are certainly not the only ones there in order to win the fights.
