Flying mount would be sweet. Don't see the logic in your reasoning Vesperia. I hate arguments that blame the 'engine short comings' for everything...

A hover-mount that could only fly a small distance above the ground would work, sure, but a truly flying mount with free reign of the Z-axis (up and down motion) which bypassed all the tricks SE put in to reduce stress on computers (tunnels that funnel you between "sub zones", tunnels that funnel you from Uldah to Thanalan, etc) would not be feasible.
Only way it could work is if when you got on a flying mount it took you to a separate instance (like the World Maps in pre FFX games, or the instanced boat rides). Flying mounts could not work with the current zone partitions and layouts.
So long as we get our chocobos, I am not bothered about anything else![]()
I'd like to see chocobos first simply because this game is in dire need of things that feel like Final Fantasy, that's one of the biggest problems with this game is it's so generic you would *never* guess that it was an FF title if you just showed it to someone unless you happened upon a Bomb or Cactuar.
That's one of the things that makes the series special is the recurrent themes and monsters. I think chocobos alone could still provide many customization options. I agree with others saying they want customizable armor. That along with colors could make it so very few chocobos looked alike, and it's another way to keep crafters in the loop. Where Armorers, Tanners, and Weavers could make various chocobo armor items of many different styles. Where you could have a super heavy armor chocobo, a more "horse" equipped chocobo with leather items, or really decorative chocobos with cloth.
I agree with this statement. We need more things that feel 'Final Fantasy' and chocobos are one of them.I'd like to see chocobos first simply because this game is in dire need of things that feel like Final Fantasy, that's one of the biggest problems with this game is it's so generic you would *never* guess that it was an FF title if you just showed it to someone unless you happened upon a Bomb or Cactuar.
But Yoshi-P, in his infinite wisdom, did not just call this future implementation a 'Chocobo' system, he called it a 'Mount' system. Which means I think he's open to giving us more.
IMO, start with chocobos, then give us more options. It doesn't need to be something crazy like the ability to tame and mount every single thing you run across. But there has to be more that's able to be ridden in Eorzea than just our beloved yellow birds. Just like IRL, we have horses, mules, elephants, camels, etc. And those are just animals, that's not including mechanical transports that we know the Garlean empire have access to. There must be more than just chocobos. I would be happy with a handful of choices.

I would like to see any of these non-traditional mounts:
Dragons
Toads
Crafter made mode of transport
Wouldn't some people complain because that kind of creeps into steampunk territory? Not that FFXIV having it's own version of Warhammer's ROFLcopter would be a bad thing...
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
