Mounts should be able to be attacked by mobs and have permadeath. So if it dies we cry IRL.http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/6...0519093356.jpg

I want to be able to make my Chocobo look something similar to this at some point in the future.
This is the customization route I was talking about when I said you can have a world where everyone's Chocobo can be unique in their own way and geared up for a variety of things similar to a retainer.
That is only IF we are able to obtain our own private Chocobos at some point. But armored Chocobos would be a nice little feature to flesh out a player and their birds' personality.
I really doubt mounted combat will be implemented anytime soon. Probably not until sometime next year, and only in new regions. I don't want my chocobo do die! It should be like Super Mario Bro 3 where when Yoshi got hit he would blink and run away :P
Nah, just normal mounts for transportation will be nice at first. Then when the Garlean Empire zone is released we could have some cool mech mounts![]()
you obviously never played final fantasy tactics
during a fight we could mount the chocobo and attack, cast magic. the enemy had to kill the chocobo first before you

Why are people so afraid of having more options aside from Chocobos? As it's been stated before other FF games have had different kinds of mounts, not to mention let's let the series progress past dusty old standards.
What is the argument against things other than chocobos? Not FF? Well we've already rendered that point moot. Anything else?
Argument for other mounts:
*Greater variety
*By association it allows players to be more expressive in their personality in-game or may accommodate their play style.
*Adds even more goals for people to aspire to. They could have quests for obtaining a license for each family of creature.
*It frees up Chocobos to be for more than JUST travel.
In all seriousness though, as long as it's in addition to Chocobos what's the problem?
This is pretty much how I look at it. An addition to chocobo being available mounts. Not a bad thing. Why are people so afraid of having more options aside from Chocobos? * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
Sorry Cxplorer, but I totally disagree.
1. They should charge, because FFXIV dearly needs money sinks (I feel that I can't really do anything meaningful with my gil currently).
2. Please give us a quest line that somehow leads to chocobos. I really would prefer quests with a goal to random repeatable levequests.
About the last point (and the original topic of this thread), I would prefer just Chocobos in every size, flavor, skill, with different equipment and so on, but as long as it fits into the lore of the world and they don't overdo it, I'm not totally against other mounts.
Mount Training: Allows you to ride a mount.
Cost: 5,000,000 gil
There's your gil sink. People that play on incomes less than that day to day will hate you for it, but there you have it.
Seeing how it's in-game currency, I don't see how one would ever feel anything meaningful about spending gil.(I feel that I can't really do anything meaningful with my gil currently)
