I wanna ride cactrot rapido from ffxi, CATCH ME NOW GMS!!!!!I'm not sure if they are still planning on using chocobo's in a different way or not. We've seen the carriages that could seat a few people in-game, but other than that, i wonder if they'll just release plain chocobos for now and add on to them later.
Imagine riding a Cactuar. Ouch!
Also a huge yes for armoured chocobos, we are on the edge of a war with the garleans after all. Might as well tie it into the story
Did someone mention dodo's? I would ride a dodo.... straight to the slaughterhouse
Edit: aww someone said dodos. Well I got nothin.
Raptors!!!
I also like the idea of mounts multiple people can ride. Like a giant tortuous bus
Bring in airships, and controllable boats. I want to explore the many island or Eorzea.
This is not World of Warcraft. Means of transportation in the Final Fantasy series is just Chocobos. They should let you raise your own chocobo like they did in FFXI. Other than that, any other types of mounts wouldn't fit in the gamePutting my rhetoric on melee RDM and how it needs to take FFXIV by storm aside for the moment, I wanted to comment on the possibilities of a mount system.
Mounts in the final fantasy series have been limited to chocobo for the most part. We've always had a wide variety of colors and such, but in the context of an MMO this is quite limited. Just like there are people who collect gear, there are people who collect mounts and find that activity fun. As such, I think the developers should look into expanding available mounts beyond just chocobo and going into some of the other sturdy and capable beasts of burden of Eorzea. Goats and rams are a nice alternative (I'd get some amusement out of seeing my lalafell riding on the back of a billygoat from point a to point b, for instance). I'm sure we could bring in bugards, dodos and ewes as well. The idea is to let players choose their ride and go with it.
At the same time, I would like to ask the devs to be very careful if they are considering implementing any type of raising or breeding system for mounts. For one, it's proven to be quite inconvenient and not well thought-out in FFXI. That's one of those mistakes that should not repeat itself here. I'd lean more for a type of system where you get your mount and use that to move about the world.
I would like to see Hogs, Drakes, Chocobos, maybe a larger breed of the hounds.
But I love the idea even more of mounts holding loot for you or gathering material, and while they are gathering they can not be called on to ride while away on a mission...only is fair.

Thinking realistically here, Chocobos are the only seriously, imaginable creature in the realm that all races can ride and not look totally ridiculous while doing so.
And also, I'm just FINALLY happy to hear from a SE reps mouth that Chocobos are finally being considered and implemented now. I've been waiting every day, of every week, of every month since launch to ride one or even see one move besides just standing there, so asking for anything else at this point is just being kinda greedy in my eyes.
That's not to say I wouldn't like to ride other creatures in the realm, "IF" done correctly for all races and still keeping the respect of the world's art style and believability intact. T
1) WoW is not the only game to have a variety of mounts available.
2) You run out of chocobo colors and then what?
3) Chocobo raising was terrible in implementation and concept. To reiterate: You do not design a system to waste an entire month's worth of the player's time to get only a chocobo that has less stamina and runs slower than the rentals and is temperamental as all hell.
Expanding the available mounts also means they can add those as drops from certain boss mobs or NMs. I'm not asking for job-specific mounts of anything like that (though the thought of an arcanist riding mobile armor or a Paladin having his trusty warhorse is tempting). I'm just asking for something to add variety to player-owned mounts as well as expanding beyond the easily-limited stock of Chocobo.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
At this point, I think just having Chocobos available will please me more than anything else I can imagine, for the most part. Besides, there's so many things you can do to customize and play around with the Chocobo that you don't even need to brainstorm over other mounts.
I can't imagine convincing the player base that Roegadyn's will be able to ride a dodos, or a Lalafell's being able to mount a Drake and cruise the desert. It just sounds silly, given the art style and tone set in the world for all its creatures. That's not to say I wouldn't want to see other mounts available somewhere down the road AFTER Chocobos get their time in.
I can imagine mounting a Garlean vehicle of some sort down the road, as the story progresses. Seeing as the have technology to move around the world unnoticed and swiftly, I can see everything fitting together nicely for another possible machine-based mount, not including airships, but motor-bike type of vehicle (I.E. FF VII).
But getting back to Chocobos... You can have different sizes, color, and features (Beak, Tail Feathers, Legs, Wings) and gear/armor to equip on your bird for protection/looks to give yourself a sense of uniqueness compared to other players. These things can be crafted, bought or earned as a reward for your mount and for yourself. I rather herd goats, dodos, and sheep as a Shepherd rather than riding them. Everything has a place and meaning in Eorzea, and this is how I see it happening.
This is a Final Fantasy game first, an MMO second.
Who gives a shit? Better than seeing a ton of different obnoxious mounts like in WoW. That fact sickened me (and that's coming from someone who had almost every single mount in the game). You can have TONS of different chocobo colours and colour variations, and you could customize armor for the chocobos too. The possibilities are endless. Don't think in a closed box.
You can implement chocobo breeding differently than what was presented in XI and without making it as much of a total timesink, and make them more easily obtainable. Perhaps through quests or through a system similar to FF9 after raising your chocobo.
Mounts don't necessarily mean an animal mount, it could mean they are thinking of vehicles. (crystal-powered steampunk motorcycles maybe?)
