Not only that but it can only be exclusively Chocobos, anything else just steals their thunder and that's what people are afraid of.

Seriously though, give me a true compelling argument for having ONLY Chocobos. "It's FF" isn't enough, there has to be a better argument. This series evolves and this game could make use of it. By the "stick to tradition" logic we shouldn't have ever added any new classes past what we had in FF1 because it's just not FF. It really just tarnishes what made FF in the first place. Also we should be playing with menu turn-based battle systems in instanced fight zones that randomly trigger as you walk along.
We also shouldn't add chocobos, since that wasn't Final Fantasy I either.

If by mount, the detractors simply mean an animal that we used to get around in, well we've also had dragons, so that point is invalid.

I'm seriously starting to wonder who makes up the fanbase here. The ones that have been with the series since its inception and appreciate its MO of refining the old and introducing new, or the awkward wave of neo-FF/anime/jpoptards that popped up around FFX's life that demand that everything cater to every exact thing that they're used to at all times.
