I feel like anything other than a hooved mob, or a dragon of some sort would just be tacky, and even the ones I mentioned are stretching it.

Chocobos are really the only viable one, and an in-depth breeding/taming system would assuage any qualms people have for want of diversity in their mount options.

Furthermore, mounted combat should be an option. I would rather have one mount and a range of things I could do on the mount than a million species of mounts that I can only "ride around on".

I'd much prefer this myself. Same mount, but ways to customize it differently. Like equps, enhancing speed (for those using it as a mount for travel, ex. Racing Saddle) Defense (those using it for combat, ex. Choco-Armor) or perhaps even equipping one with Pouch Saddle, increasing the amount of items you can carry while you are DoL farming for items.

At the risk of being a huge timesink that makes your time and effort worthless. There's a reason why I'm not keen on a breeding/raising system, you know.

Personally I don't care what they do with mounts...well there is one thing I do care about. Make sure it's just Chocobos, hell make them ultimately customizable with chrome rims and shit. But for the love of god don't start handing out mounts like they are skittles.

I don't want to see someone driving a marmot or dodo or dragon or sea turtle or bionic puppy. This one thing I say SE needs to be sure to follow KISS "Keep it simple stupid"

Your rent costs for owning one chocobo, combined with an overt reliance on other people turn me off, but a decent read nevertheless. It's not you, but more my hatred for rarity-based systems (which this happens to reek of).

The costs are designed as a gil-sink, which we are sorely in need of (see: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...Curb-Inflation )

Also there is no overt reliance on others. Just rent or buy if you don't want to do the raising. It's also not rarity-based. Anyone can rent, and you can probably find someone willing to sell for cheap. The only time rarity comes into play is when you want to breed a specific type of chocobo.

I just became privy to this thread so I don't know if anyone has made this suggestion or not, but back in the day when I played FFXI I always thought to myself that there could be more mounts besides just Chocobos. Specifically there could have been racial mounts. (Like Galka riding Dhalmel and Tarutaru riding Crawlers) So, in the same spirit, I think it would be cool if there were either some kind of Race specific or nation specific types of mounts that could be used for transport or other specific purposes. XI had a lot more mobs to choose from that were mount-worthy. I can't think of all of the possibilities for XIV but the idea of a Roagadyn riding an Aldgoat or a Lalafell riding a Dodo appeal to me!

I think Chocobo's need to simply be _the_ mount. Wether you have to get em from a quest, bread em, catch em, etc IDK...but some sort of mount to get around would be great.

Also I'd like to see:

1) Airships used....docks all over the place and I'm sure those ships floating about would really like to come down now >.>

2) The Taxi Service operational. There are Taxi stations around as well on pre-set routes...I think these would be worth implimenting as well.

Movement in this game shouldn't be as limited as it is. People wasting hours running about because they are out of Anima etc...it seems silly for such a 'laid back' and 'social' MMO.
