The only other mount type I would be open to are magitek-style armors (Garlean technology, I'd imagine). Otherwise, chocobo only. Definitely not other animal types.

I would have to be traditional on this one. Chocobos, boats, airships.
FF has always been about changing a lot of stuff around, but keeping a few signature things. These are a fe wof those, and I feel there is no need to deviate from it.

As a Lalafell, I'd much rather ride a Maidenbug.
I'd like to saddle one up for my run from East Goblin NM camp to North.

Seriously though - I do agree that straying too far from Chocobo will make the game feel less like a Final Fantasy, not that it wouldn't be fun or interesting or adventurous.
I'm wondering if the team has given any thought to fighting wild chocobo and/or saddling them up in the field, though.
I certainly don't mind renting them from stables, but it's not outside other Final Fantasy games to fight wild chocobo, or lure them with greens and ride them off into the sunset - or force them to mate with your other chocobos (or in an MMO, you're friends' chocobos) - like twisted, mad, genetic scientists bent on getting the perfect, Gold Chocobo so you can unleash Knights of the Round...
...but I digress. Any thoughts on this from community, reps or devs?
i would say chocobo only with chocobo breeding/rasing to custumize look and chocobo gear made by crafters that can give your chocobo a boost. there is no need for dodos or marmot mounts, just make chocobos fun and customizable
imagine, black chocobo with White gold plate armor +3 ( yeah +3 makes it shiny) or cloth armor or leather, gear your chocobo to match your class ^.^
also the more a chocobo runs the gear wears and you need to fix it!..... O.o!

As far as personal mounts go, I would like to see only chocobos. There is quite a bit you can do with them such as alter size, color (white/black chocobo please?), add armor, etc. If player-ran companies had their own emblems, maybe you could assign that emblem in one form or another to your own personal/company chocobo?
One thing I personally think WoW overdid was pet/mount collection, some of them got so ridiculous like the sparkle-pony from the cash shop that everyone bought.

I would like to keep mounts a little more Final Fantasy themed please, though if you do add in other personal mounts, just don't go overboard! ^_^

I agree that it should be chocobos and chocobos only for mounts. Anything else will continue to move away from the Final Fantasy feel. However I'm definitely all for the idea of a genuine breeding system similar to that of FFVII, but with more in-depth variations.
doop doop
i would like to be able to put a bumper sticker on my chocobo that says hows my riding 1800-chocobo

To Yoshida-san and FF XIV Team:
I also vote for Chocobos Only to start with.
And a Chocobo Breeding System like Final Fantasy VII, to customize, get rarer, faster, stronger Chocobo Mounts that way. They can dovetail that system with a whole new Gold Saucer Chocobo Racing Sub-Game, which could be a good form of entertainment, a Gil Sink, and a way to earn rare items all in one place.![]()

So, apparently alot of you have never played Final Fantasy..
For your sake here is a list of other modes of transportation form the Final Fantasy Series other than chocobos..
Magitek Armor
Motor Cycles
Cars
Shoopuff
Airships
Spaceships
Canoes
Sail Boats
Speed Boats
Dragons
Personal Aerial Combat Armor
Trains
Gargant(spider things)
Hovercraft
Snowboard
Submarine
Helicopter
And that's just off the top of my head.. Now please, someone explain to me how Chocobo's are the only reasonable Mount for FFXIV..
What about a giant robotic moogle?
