Airship maybe?
Airship maybe?
There is supposed to be a signature here.
im not going to read the entire thread, but dodobo ftw. All hail the might dodobo *ark*
Examination of mount system (including chocobos)???
What THE HELL? INCLUDING CHOCOBOS??
Damn, this is Final Fantasy, ONLY chocobos are allowed.
They can differ in colours, armor or wathever.
Any other type of mounts don't fit in this game.
Final Fantasy games have had ships and submarines, trains, airships as well as chocobos. Minigames have even had snowboarding and motorbike racing...
Motorbikes and submarines do not really fit with the current feel of the level of technology of Eorzea, but I don't see why we could not have trains (as there are mine carts that run around on rails in Nanawa mines for example) and airships (obviously as we see them flying around) along with Chocobos.
"Mounts" would imply just an animal that you can ride, but I would like to see the introduction of various modes of transport within the game. Also, although chocobos have been the main mode of mounted transport in Final Fantasy games for like the past 20 years why can the mold not be broken for this MMO?
Sorry Matty, you're just plain wrong. As long as chocobos are in and everything else is in addition what is the problem? Seriously I've been a fan of the FF series for as long as I can remember and even I am fine with adding more than just Chocobos. Let the series move forward especially in a game that needs it and can make good use of it.
Well I'm speaking about "mount" system, we can have trains, airship, submarines, etc. but those are "trasportation" system, it's a different story.Final Fantasy games have had ships and submarines, trains, airships as well as chocobos. Minigames have even had snowboarding and motorbike racing...

In all FF the only mount is the chocobo, the bike in VII was just a mini-game, same for snowboard.
Magitek were made for fight, not for move faster in the world map.
You know why this FANTASTIC saga is dying? Because they're "breaking the rule".
I buy FF to play FF, I don't want FF to be another game, I'm not going to buy NBA if I want to play football game...
If you are a FF fans, you'll agree that no mount better then a chocobo can ever be made.
I can't see people riding dogs, dodo's or any other shit that is not a chocobo, at least not untill the game title is Final Fantasy.
I'm not english, I hope you understand.
I have to admit that I played the FF games because of the name and what it included inside: walk then chocobo then boat then airship (and open world). Changing these modes of transportation means changing FF to me and it will lose what attracted me at first.
Conclusion, I'm for chocobo only but customable ones (pieces of armor/colors/size). I thought about people saying it should evolve and expand but it simply doesn't work for me after all these years of knowing and enjoying what to expect in a FF game.
From what I gather from this thread FF = Chocobos and nothing else. The only thing that makes a Final Fantasy game Final Fantasy is Chocobos. Not the setting, the story, the music, the general art style, the combat, the classes or any of that. Just Chocobos. Not only that but it can only be exclusively Chocobos, anything else just steals their thunder and that's what people are afraid of.
Seriously though, give me a true compelling argument for having ONLY Chocobos. "It's FF" isn't enough, there has to be a better argument. This series evolves and this game could make use of it. By the "stick to tradition" logic we shouldn't have ever added any new classes past what we had in FF1 because it's just not FF. It really just tarnishes what made FF in the first place. Also we should be playing with menu turn-based battle systems in instanced fight zones that randomly trigger as you walk along.
I'm still upset that Fighter was renamed to Warrior and Black Belt was renamed to Monk. From what I gather from this thread FF = Chocobos and nothing else. We also shouldn't add chocobos, since that wasn't Final Fantasy I either. From what I gather from this thread FF = Chocobos and nothing else. If by mount, the detractors simply mean an animal that we used to get around in, well we've also had dragons, so that point is invalid.
I'm seriously starting to wonder who makes up the fanbase here. The ones that have been with the series since its inception and appreciate its MO of refining the old and introducing new, or the awkward wave of neo-FF/anime/jpoptards that popped up around FFX's life that demand that everything cater to every exact thing that they're used to at all times.
