My suggestion would be for customizable chocobo's. Keep the final fantasy feel, but give it mmo flavor. Besides choco armor is awesome.

They really coded themselves into a corner by making this lazy warping system that breaks the immersion of a consistent world completely.
What you do is hook people on a simple traveling system, then have some sort of crazy world event where all the Aetheryte have broken and the mysterious aetheric mist no longer crystallizes. Prices rise, panic breaks out and the days of near-instantaneous travel are now over. Or is it?
The campaign to repair the Aetheryte introduces chocobos and airships into Eorzea. New zones are added that are only accessible by these new forms of travel, as the aetheric mist is incapable of crystallizing close to these anomalies that have sprung up. Once you have defeated the big bad, the Aetherytes start to reform, but now require more anima the further away from the city you're trying to teleport. The anomalies, however, still exist and continue to interfere with teleportation (possibly making it somewhat unreliable by either randomly costing more anima than normal or just occasionally not being able to teleport you).
I like this idea alot. Wow, just...wow that was well thought out and sounds alot of fun and innovative. What you do is hook people on a simple traveling system, then have some sort of crazy world event where all the Aetheryte have broken and the mysterious aetheric mist no longer crystallizes. Good news to everyone that wants chocobo only, square allready made a game for you its called ffxi, pleaxse go play that.
Eww...
Chocobos? Definitely.
But other stuff? I really hope not. Not another ridiculous mount system ala WoW with a billion species out the wazoo, it'd kill all feeling of chocobo being special. I mean, sure, maybe the odd one that fit into theme somehow, but I can't think of any... and I'd hate it if they added something like wargs -.-
If anything what'd be most amazing is more active emphasis on chocobo with a breeding and colour system.

I see here a way to play a minigame, letting young mob to be tame and be raised to adult so you can mount/sell them. Making different type of mount, stock mount for miner/botanist by example.

A genius of FF11 was the quest highlighting the bond between rider and Chocobo. Not only when you got the license did you feel a real sense of accomplishment, but there was an emotional attachment as well. It definitely wouldn't be FF if you rode just some dumb animal that you whipped to make go faster.
And hopefully SE has fully translated the game from its original Chinese so we won't have any more "horse-bird" nonsense.![]()
Wait a minute. Why do we need Chocobo armour?
It's not like we're getting mounted combat.
