yes i know there are possibly hundreds/thousands of MMO's that have a variety of mounts. but in the Final Fantasy Universe, chocobos were the main means of transportation......next thing someone will bring up is wanting to implement flying mounts (in FF, no thanks, lol)
I think Chocobos should be the staple mount, but I don't see what is wrong with maybe a few others. But I would be happy with just chocobos anyway, as long as there is a diverse array of sub-species within the chocobo genus. For example, in FFXIII there were the Coccoon Chocobos and then there was the Gran Pulse Chocobos. They were two separate and distinctive breeds. Something like that in FFXIV would be cool.yes i know there are possibly hundreds/thousands of MMO's that have a variety of mounts. but in the Final Fantasy Universe, chocobos were the main means of transportation......next thing someone will bring up is wanting to implement flying mounts (in FF, no thanks, lol)
Different beaks, different sizes, different coats/feathers, different muscle tone, claws, facial features, wings. And then further ability to customise the mount with a variety of armour would be cool.
I don't think anyone would begrudge an MMO for only having Chocobos if there was such a huge diversity of chocobos available.
This mistake was already done in XI, and we have screwed up party mechanics and a couple of other things as a result of not deciding what stays and what goes in the transition into MMO.No need to take that tone.Who gives a shit? Better than seeing a ton of different obnoxious mounts like in WoW. That fact sickened me (and that's coming from someone who had almost every single mount in the game). You can have TONS of different chocobo colours and colour variations, and you could customize armor for the chocobos too. The possibilities are endless. Don't think in a closed box.
Also, limiting yourself only to chocobo makes you the close-minded one. I'm trying to think of what else could be implemented to help fill the gap, specially taking into account a world that is bigger and justifies the need for player-owned mounts. XI didn't have that because a rental chocobo could get you around for the most part. You could limit yourself to one animal because the game was not designed around player-owned mounts.
You're still limited to one animal. Variety is not a bad thing to have. Black Chocobo. You can implement chocobo breeding differently than what was presented in XI and without making it as much of a total timesink, and make them more easily obtainable. Perhaps through quests or through a system similar to FF9 after raising your chocobo.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

Airships could be used for really long distance transportation =D
But I don't want to be able to get a Chocobo mount at a low level =(
Walking may get annoying and boring, but if you start getting mounts at like.. level 20 It takes away most of the 'feel'.
Oh..
and NO FLYING MOUNTS. PLEASE. NEVER. EVER EVER EVER.

But in a game with landmass as expansive as FFXIV, a chocobo would help preserve the "feel".
Without a chocobo, the land becomes boring. Adventure turns into monotony.
Seconded. It'd be nice to see the landscape knowing it won't take you a lengthy amount of time to get through. I like teleporting and all, but sometimes I wish I could mount up and ride.

What about anima powered machina? In 7 there was a lot of different "mounts" to ride on and i personally would lmao if someone was riding a fat chocobo like the chocobo king. The thing about final fantasy i had always thought is that it was supposed to be different from the others and have some classic elements as well, moogles and choco's. Now that there could be something too, the little guys could ride a moogle. Oh Vesperia, i think those things from Mononoke are called red elks. I looked it up once but it was over two years ago when i bought the Studio Ghibli collection.
Why is everyone against flying mounts? In some games chocobos can fly..I really loved my flying chocobo in IX. I chose him more often than the airships. Plus, you could get to special areas with him.
And I was gonna mention machina too, taelien. In a few FF games you could travel by machina as well as chocobo. I think it might be a little weird to see someone zooming by on a little machina in lets say, the black shroud, but I'm not against ideas like that XD
(I also like the idea of differnt colored chocobos having different stats/abilities, but that's just me..)
