Client Crash After Clicking OK on Maintenance Notice (Not Pressing Play)

    Hey all,

Been browsing in and out all day, finding very similar problems but not quite the issue I have. I've been playing since launch day with no issue. Recently, I've taken about a week-long break to take over some additional duties at work and now that I'm trying to play again I'm running into game-breaking crashes. Specifically, I log in with username, password, and one-time password, then click play. A maintenance warning window is then displayed. When I click OK on that screen, the client opens a new window (the game), and immediately crashes.

My rig is fantastic, freshly cleaned, well-ventilated, and not an issue here. I've also tried several other fixes other people have had success with, including resetting my password to rule out the account fraud thing, reinstalling the game entirely, and deleting the FFXIV data folder. None of these have solved my issue!

I am on Brynhildr (sp) NA, logging in from Colorado. Anyone have any idea how I can get into the game? Your help is appreciated, thank you!

I've experienced this kind of behavior in the past with various programs because security on a system was blocking the new version of the executable after an update. Might see some evidence of it in the logs for your firewall or antivirus. As a quick test, you can go into the exception management sections for them and re-add/update the executables in the XIV installation folder--maybe even whitelist the entire folder if you want.

    Thanks for the advice Raist,

After debugging the error it looks like it is an issue with an Nvidia driver. Specifically, nvwgf2um.dll. I'm getting the following message:

"Unhandled exception at 0x5CBB45CA (nvwgf2um.dll) in ffxiv.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000064."

I've browsed around the net and noticed this is an issue with other games running DX 10/11, not just FF XIV, so I am attempting to upgrade to version 306.97 since this has helped users of other games. I found the information at the following forum:

    https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...-nvwgf2um-dll/

I will post updates as I work through it with whatever information I get. I want to play this game badly enough that I will stick through til the end.

    Solved.

Resolved my issue. For the record, I'm running Nvidia GTX 670 4GB. I had to roll back to the 306.97 driver pack and now I am running flawlessly. I also disabled 3D at the same time (bad troubleshooting, I know), so it's hard to say which did it. But almost certainly, rolling back the driver worked.

On another note, people have been running into issues with the KB2670838 Windows update. That was going to be my next step, but wasn't necessary. I may still do it if I run into any lag or micro-stutter issues. Thank God no voltage changes necessary.

Hope this helps someone. Don't forget to document your issues and solutions!
