I just learned how to convert items to materia

Hey everybody I have finally finished the quest to have access to convert 100% spiritbonded items to materia.

1. Will the materia I convert from items be the same if I convert them as a gladiator or any other class? Or will the materia be different based on what class I currently am?

2. Does my class level reflect on the quality of converted items to materia? Will a lvl 35 gladiator converting a lvl 10 dagger get a better materia then a lvl 20 gladiator converting the same item?

3. Should I be converting gear when I am a DoH class, or can I be a battle class and convert items at the same efficiency level?

Any little bit of advice will definitely help!

1. No difference at all. Totally based on luck.
2. It's based on the item level, not your character level.
3. You can convert with any class, whether DoW, DoM, DoH, or DoL.

What does affect what materia you get is the item level, and what it's used for. For example, a gear that has stats like Gathering or Perception will give you a gathering materia, whereas something that has Strength might give you a Strength materia. Then whether you get a I, II, III, or IV materia is based on the item's level. For example, a level 38 Aetherial Heliodor Choker (it has Vitality, Parry, and one more stat I can't remember) might net you a Vitality II Materia (just throwing out an example).

In short, convert away!

EDIT: Good point from below post about elemental resistance/damage materia. I do have some elemental resistance materias, although I don't remember if the original gear had any elemental resistance stats on them to begin with.

Generally they'll be 1 of 3 types, from what I've seen:

1-Relevant to the type(ie, GLA/MRD weapons & gear dropping Parry or VIT)
2-Elemental(self-explanatory)
3-Semi-Relevant(ie, Skill/Spell Speed, Accuracy, Determination, Crit)

Basically, DoW items should not drop MND/INT/PIE or GP/Gathering/Perception or CP/Control/Craftsmanship materia. DoM should not drop VIT/STR/DEX or DoL/H materia. DoL should only drop Elemental or DoL materia. DoH should only drop Elemental or DoH materia.

Should being the key word, there's always bound to be a fluke somewhere. I remember not getting anything good from a convert in v1, but then again this's a much different game now.

Also, you need something of relevant item level. Something iLVL1 will never drop anything above a Grade-1 Materia.
