Please fix bad game design: Make Guardians, Namedays, and Elemental Resistances DO

...something? They are almost entirely worthless. It's quite obvious these features do not do anything in the game, so stop trying to hide behind the many, many, many problems of this game.

    Here are my proposals:
    - Actually make Elemental Resistance matter. If I use Fluid Aura (a water ability) against a Fire enemy (a Bomb) then it should deal MORE damage, not the same amount of damage as if I used a Fire spell. Do'h!

    - Make Elemental Resistance materia viable. If someone wants to use Wind Resistance materia for some sort of "Garuda"-specific gear, let them. Give people options. You don't allow players hardly any options. Increase the +1 Elemental Resistance gear to something much higher, say, 10, 20, 50, etc. This allows for interesting gear choices.

    - Choosing your Guardian should decrease or increase your elemental resistances much more than how much it is currently.

    - Have your Nameday DO something. Anything. Ugh.

I guess they'll be more useful when PVP comes out, like ppl can prepare different equips against say BLM and WHM.
If they make elemental resistance more effective on mobs, it will be unbalance for players in different roles. Since BLM can't really make an attack other than Fire and Ice.

Well, for one, I think you should get some sort of daily bonus for making a pilgrimage to your deities altar and praying.

    Also, birthday presents...

Bombs are actually weak to fire in several final fantasy games.

I thought this rule only applied to Bombs in FFXI because they were Arcane monsters.

Yes, in FFXI bombs were classed as arcana, that is, they were mystical entities created from books, and paper burns, hence fire spells ironically dealt tons of damage to them.

And your Guardian does do something - it affects your elemental resistance (for instance, if your Guardian is Azeyma, you'll get a slight bonus to fire defense but a slight reduction to wind). 1.0 originally also had your Guardian could be evoked as a blessing buff during levequests, but it was removed sadly in a patch. Nameday though is pretty much just for fun - it's possible SE might do something with this in the future.

They probably won't do anything about it because it could threaten the "accessibility for new players"...

Let's make all the content shallow! Wheee!

Having the Guardian choice be more severe would be a horrible design decision. Same as if Races had significant stat bonuses and penalties over other Races. Just bad design.

Elemental resistance does matter, it does affect your damage taken. But no, they won't ever have player spells follow the element of creatures, because that would make certain jobs useless in scenarios. They would have to completely redesign THM and CNJ.

Instead it makes everyone a virtual carbon copy of one another with barely any differences. Why is diversity perceived as such a bad thing?

I don't want to invalidate your opinion, but with all due respect, your highest level is just Lv. 32. Elemental resistance is pretty laughable when you really need it to reduce damage and the materia that enhances it is a joke. As it stands right now, it's a filler attribute that serves no practical purpose. It does reduce damage, yes, but focusing on Vitality is more effective if surviving is your concern.

Edit: Disregard the scratched part, I just read your signature.

What you mistakenly think would lead to diversity would lead to the exact opposite... carbon copies. If stats were significantly different for races or guardians, everyone the majority would be the race that min-maxes the necessary stats. It was rampant in FFXI... people didn't play the race they really wanted because they felt gimped because the stats were not correct for the job they wanted to play.
