Is there an actual pattern to this (would be cool)? Any discussions I've read on the subject all seem to agree it's random, and we all know how much the Square Enix RNG likes to ruin all our hopes and dreams!

But on a more helpful point:
I heard that there was a pattern:
All items of a specific level for a specific slot share the same maximum stats.

Which explains why all the crafted (Zircon, Amber, Etc. ) rings look alike?

There also seems to be a relationship between the highest visible and lowest visible stats and what other material you can attach.

And finally, I believe HQ items always have displayed stats maxed out.

The most random thing I've seen is Aetheryte Ring, it gives super random materia when converting lol...
