Repair in dungeons! Please show the devs how essential this is!

Just read your other posts and you're saying how it was just a mistake, fair enough. But mistakes are a part of the game. You wouldn't ask for a trampoline to bounce you back up the side of Demon Wall if you made the mistake of getting knocked off would you? This is no different. Keeping your gear repaired is part of the game.

Let's take this fantasy realism thing a step farther... A battle party sets out with a caravan full of supplies, including food, replacement gear, repair equipment, and a cook, armorer and whoever else they may need in addition to the battle party. The journey would likely take weeks to reach their base camp, and from there the battle party would trek into the mountains alone, in search of Titan's cave. After several hours of spelunking, they finally come across the monstrosity, and battle begins. Now whatever you have with you is all you are gonna get. Your armorer is waiting back at base camp. So you better have been prepared with your gear in the best condition possible. Because the battle will be long.

BTW: I have never come close to having my gear break when I started at 100%.

It would be worlds better if you could just meld and repair any gear you've got the right class+level for without having to change classes.

Wait, are people seriously arguing that everyone should have infallible memory when repairing gear? I take it those are the folks who have just beaten the story and have run maybe three dungeons, right? Because with the amount of grinding the devs want you to do to gear up all your jobs, you've had to have gotten a 10% notification in the middle of a run at some point.

As of right now, there is only a single notification, and it's when your gear hits 10%. I joined a CM run without checking my gear first, and right after the first boss, my weapon and half my gear dropped to 10%. "That's alright," I thought, "I'm sure 10% is enough to finish this run without any deaths." Except it wasn't. Apparently, 10% can only get you from the end of the first boss to the end of the third boss. Why is the notification at 10% if that isn't enough to get you through a full dungeon run? As much as I love looking at myself, my first instinct isn't to check my gear every chance I get, and I'm sure it's not for the majority of players.

Having a mender NPC at the beginning of a dungeon isn't some slippery slope to having the full housing zone in dungeons. Only a supreme fool would think that's the case. And you can't expect people to repair at the start of every dungeon run when the Duty Finder is so convenient. You might as well force the Duty Finder interface to be through the damn Merchant & Mender if that's to be expected.

This seems like a case of the devs not thinking things through. A simple notification at 30% or so would probably alleviate a lot of needless gear breaks, just so people don't have to teach themselves to check their gear every other run. I really can't believe people think this is some sort of feature or something we have to live with.

It's incredibly inconvenient that we can't repair our equipment in dungeons. My WHM cane just broke in a dungeon and my healing decreased by at least half, rendering me totally useless to heal through the dungeon.

I had no choice but to drop out of the dungeon, ruining things for the other players and giving myself a 15m DF lockout.

It's especially ridiculous since I had all my Carpenter equipment and Dark Matter right there in my inventory.

Show the devs how important it is that we make DF groups less inconvenient! This will help with the bad reputation DF groups and the FFXIV community in general is getting. Add in your support on this thread for dungeon repairs!

It's apparent why SE doesn't allow repair in dungeons(not that I agree), they want us to be ready, locked and loaded before entering. Those who aren't ready with the right gear, and fully repaired will suffer being gimped with damaged equipment.

In addition, even if you entered at 50%, you should be good to go and complete the run. Changing gear can happen but not classes, so repairs would be out of the question.

I would be down for open dungeons, in fact I'm asking the community to push for open dungeons so there's a bit of picnic-runs.
Bring back open dungeons for exploration and farming!
Open dungeons are like the ones from either FFXIV 1.0 or like FFXI... a zone of their own or a non-zoning area where's there's trouble around every corner except for a selected camp.

Understand why dungeons are the way they are but ask Yoshi-P to introduce new dungeons.

I haven't.

My reasons are:
A) Dark matter takes up precious space
and
B) Switching through 3-4 different classes to repair my stuff is BEYOND tedious.

I'd rather farm shards than repair an inventory worth of stuff.

While I do get your point and all, I don't really think this change would matter all that much compared to any amount of time they'd have to put into it. Human error can happen with the dark matter and all too.

I would think a better solution would to have an NPC at the beginning of each dungeon that could repair equipment and that's it. No selling to him, no items for sale, just a repair guy for those times people derp. I would suggest adding the option to leave a dungeon and come back to it without dropping group and all, but I could see that causing a few headaches without a kick feature and people just generally being jerks sometimes.

I repair my own equipment all the time. I've only spent about 300 gil on NPC repairs and I have 10 classes over lvl35, with most being closer to 45.

They already have a way to repair your own gear. What they need to change is to allow you to do it without changing classes, just as long as your DoHs meets the requirements and you have the Dark Matter.

This is a perfect solution Exactly as you say; you shouldn't have to tediously change classes to repair your equipment, it should just check your crafting level requirement, check that you have a main hand tool for that craft in your armory, and the right dark matter, and just let you freakin' repair your stuff no matter what class you're currently geared as.

You're right, I learned from this mistake. From now on I'll definitely be double-checking all my equipment before I que up on the DF. But is it really worth it to let people make this mistake and learn from it when it wastes other players time, ruining their dungeon run and making them reque for 30+ minutes? It's not the same as learning from a mistake in a Primal trial that you can just do over immediately.

I don't think the game should make everyone in a party pay for one person's occasional non-combat non-gameplay mistake with that much time wasted.

The other reason this whole thing is unacceptable is because I've spent so much time and energy into leveling ALL the Disciple of Hand classes. My skills from these classes should come in handy when I need them. Now it's just another way that crafting is less useful in 2.0, because of a bad programming/design quirk.
