Actually built this rig to replace my g73, it was a great laptop but can't handle max settings. Does high though. I miss the flexibility of a desktop and wanna be ready for next gen. Thinking of selling it but not sure what the g73 goes for, I also paid 1200 for mineBuilt my rig to play 1.0 payed about 1500.00 then could probably do it for 800.00 or so now
ASUS Crosshair Formula IV MB
AMD 1090T CPU OC'd 4.2ghz
AMD 6970 GPU
Corsair 850w PSU (a bit much but wanted to be able to upgrade cards in the future)
Samsung SSD 8 series pro 256
1TB 7200 rpm HD
Corsair H80 liquid cooling
Windows 7 ultimate
22" ACER Monitor
8g Ram 1600 gskill
Like I said 1500.00 buck three or so years ago.
Should be able to to get close to that 700-900 bucks
SSD was added later so that was not in original price.
ALSO have an ASUS G73 laptop that plays the game great 1200.00 for that
Make sure you buy good name brand parts ASUS and Corsair are a couple of my favorites. Intel chips are going to better for gaming, but AMD work fine too.
I tried playing on max setting with the G73 and it stuttered a bit too much, so I just set them to high and it does just. Looks decent too, but not as nice as the desktop.Actually built this rig to replace my g73, it was a great laptop but can't handle max settings. Does high though. This is your best bet. Also, go Intel and nVidia, not AMD.

For anyone that DID go AMD (like I did): Windows 8.1 fixed my micro-stutters. The game runs significantly better for me since I upgraded to 8.1. I was very disappointed when my 7970 generated micro-stutters anytime I was mounted and running, but they are gone now... YAY!http://www.logicalincrements.com/

Unless you're going for a very budget built, cpu wise Intel > AMD. AMD just haven't been competitive in the mid/high segment in a while.
On the GPU side however, you'd be foolish to blindly limit yourself to either AMD or Nvidia. Both puts out good products and often trade leads in perfermance and cost effectiveness. Current, it would make little sense for one to get a 770 rather than a 280X, unless you just feel like paying extra money for the same performance and a different badge.
I'm happy with built I put together, yeah some used parts but it maxes everything at 60fps in 1080p which is great on my tv, now just have to decide rather to sell my g73 or keep it for on the go gaming should I ever need to travel again
I disagree with this to an extent, since the pile driver CPU's came out I think AMD have been competitive in the mid range, a lot of people believe everything they read and like to jump on the bandwagon though, not saying you, just in general. The only place in this game that the $120 6300 will see a slight hit in performance over a $200-220 3570k is in a really crowded area like a major city where it gets really cpu intensive.Unless you're going for a very budget built, cpu wise Intel > AMD. The real catch to them is if you step up to a 83XX CPU, you need a good mobo, you can't skimp on them at all so you're looking at around $200 for a good board, especially if you want to overclock then lets not talk about cooling that beast, thats a whole different story.
I like using AMD CPU's and I like overclocking AMD cpu's, there is a snappiness and feel to it the benchmarks don't tell, and it does everything I need it to do and does it well, I just disagree with intel's business practices so I won't buy thier stuff, they do own the high end segment though, no denying that.
My MB just died and thankfully EVGA is sending me a replacement. The sad news is I need a new CPU and RAM because my system was outdated. The motherboard they are sending me is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188097.
I am going to buy:

Now I am going to save up for a new video card and I am looking for suggestions. My current card is EVGA GTX 260 Core 216. I would like to stick with Nvidia. I play on a 22 inch TV on max resolution.
