Upgrading to a solid state drive isn't essential... however it will be one of the most noticeable upgrades. When you go from 40 seconds boot times to desktop to under 10 seconds you're left with this feeling of amazement.

Clearly, "amazement" is the entirety of your knowledge base for system-building.

Its not perfect, but most people have a HDD or two lying around they can throw in a pc, if you're updgrading your old one just scavange it for optical drives and hard drives or just replace the SDD with a normal hard drive.

Fair, but if you aren't deconstructing an existing rig, I find it hard to get by on 120GB. Hell, I find it hard to get by on 2.5TB, ha!
