SE doesn't need to do anything to protect people here. You already have to click enough times to go through it. I don't need yet another confirmation box on top of what already exists.
You realize melding the wrong materia doesn't ruin an item right? You can talk to Mutamix in central thanalan to have your item wiped of materia.
Also, whenever someone is doing melding requests, I always ask them if they're sure if i think they're making a mistake. I'd honestly blame the person doing your melds for not catching an obvious error before confirming.
Also, its worth pointing out to the OP: You can still max the potential of that item even without wping the materia- You can't add any CP, and you can cap both control and craftsmanship with 3 materia. the remaining two slots can have whatever, because nothing else affects crafting.
I don't think you really read the thread. >_> Half of it is that it shouldn't wipe all materia - just the one you last put in.

I think you're mistaken; to max control and craftsmanship on the body piece I think you'd need at least 4 materia slots. And you should really use all five because it wouldn't be economical to use 4.Also, its worth pointing out to the OP: You can still max the potential of that item even without wping the materia- You can't add any CP, and you can cap both control and craftsmanship with 3 materia. the remaining two slots can have whatever, because nothing else affects crafting.

I'm looking at the head, not the body actually as it happens, my mistake.
I have 5 control and 4 craftsmanship in materia on the headpiece and both are capped. Can't ad any CP whatsoever, so i have 2 slots for materia that can't be practically used for anything other than VIT really, unless INT still matters to a goldsmith at all (it is still their highest stat, though i've been told the main stats are totally irrelevant in ARR)
Its worth pointing out you can't add any CP to any of the pieces that have +3 CP.

Let me ask you this questions, you get HQ ilv70 gear made and meld it to be the best it can be currently for you. You get some other ilv90 part, and this changes something so you should change 2 materia to be best you can be. If you want to make this change why cant you just drop 2 materia (any 2, 1 at a time) and remeld the extra 2 and be done. You shouldnt need to clear all 5 and start over. This is all the OP is really saying, he just used a derp moment an an example of one way you might want to remeld.
My old Coil BLM had to change a few melds for acc after getting his coil body to meet cap, just 2 changes and had to clean all and start over which was really not needed as 3/5 were kept the same.
Perfect example of how the materia system should work in regards to min-maxing stats! It's not like letting someone remove only one materia at a time (as opposed to all of them at once) makes the re-melding any more difficult. You still have just as much chance to fail melding on those extra slots. It just makes the whole system a billion times more useful and less headachey.Let me ask you this questions, you get HQ ilv70 gear made and meld it to be the best it can be currently for you. I say you eat your losses and just wear it as a badge of shame.
