    Starting a Crafter

In games I have always gone for roles that benefit the community. I find myself playing Healer more than DPS, tank not so much since I never seem to do it right. I work and chat with guild members more than do actual game content. So I decided to start a crafter. Add to the community and to my pocket.

Now my main classes are WHM and SCH hence I want to gear them up eventually. But as a crafter where do I start, which crafts should I level first for which cross class skills and which Gathering should I master first for some extra Gil and material?

Advice and Guidance will be appreciated.

    Good luck!

The market on my server is flooded with botting crafters. Hard to sell stuff, because you get undercut by botters flooding the market with stuff.

Of course, when you have people with multiple crafts max level within a week or two of release (non legacy) you knew botting was an issue. I still laugh when I see people with 4 + craft classes maxed, thinking that it's not obvious they botted.

Weaver is very versatile too. Full armour/clothing sets for casters, crafters and gatherers along with a respectable choice of physical DPS gear and the occasional pair of pants for the tanks. Their cross-class skills are a bit boring, though, discounting Careful Synthesis II (which is beaaaaaautiful). There's also the issue that it's rather tedious (well, it was for me ;_; ) because of how much time you'll be spending on crafting the various components (Yarn/Cloth), but otherwise I found Weaver pretty alright.

I'd suggest pairing a gathering job with a crafting one.

I was able to attain lv 50 cul with help from my botanist job but gathering jobs take longer to level then DoH jobs. Always try and keep your gathering higher then crafting to offset material acquisition for your crafts.

Most crafting jobs you can get to 15 easily by sitting by the vendor in the crafting guild and making the level 1-15 items. I'd suggest doing this for all the crafting jobs because the cross class abilities you get at 15 are quite good. Leveling each craft to 15 will also get you a lot of shards by completing the classs quests which is easier then farming them.

I have been studying the cross class skills and have decided on Carpentry, Culinary, Weaving and perhaps Alchemy. The first two is for the cross class and 50 and 37 respectively and the latter two for gearing. Might do Goldsmithing in the future too.

As for Gathering I find it surprising how easy Fishing is compared to the others. I read it can be maxed in 30 hours.

With one of the recent patches the amount of experience from a DoL leve quest is nearly double what it was previously. level 45 leves were close to 45k base experience.

It's much easier to level bot or miner now so don't be deterred. Took me 7 leves from 49 to 50 which is about 30 minutes.

I recently picked up the alc 15 ability and it's one of the best cross class abilities. I suggest it to anyone looking to max out their crafting potential.

How many threads are you going to go on about all these "crafting bots." As someone who has literally manually leveled all of my crafting classes it's starting to get offensive. Guess what, some of us have massive gil amounts from the first wave of pre relics when we all had a single craft leveled. Gil + triple HQ leves = increadably easy craft leveling. Maybe we all just actually spent the time focusing more on the crafting side of things and can flood the market because we can?

Just because we can, doesn't mean that we should. I never flood with my product, I hold it in store and release it in a set amount each day as things sell in order to try to retain a high value for my labour (similar to the way the real world diamond trade works). Flooding is unnecessary, and a serious pain in the butt! If you aren't sitting on an absurd amount of product, you won't need to clear it out at rock-bottom prices, you'll spend less time crafting to try to turn a profit, and your labour will be worth more.

Now lets not go off topic, I was talking to a crafter in game and he suggested I get the following skills for cross classing.

    In order of importance-

Tricks of Trade - ALC 15
    Hasty Touch - CUL 15
    Rumination- CRP 15
Steady Hands II - CUL 37
    Byregot's Blessing- CRP 50
    Innovation- GSM 50
    Careful Synthesis II- WVR 50
    Ingenuity II- BSM 50
