Thank you for noticing that. I'm not used to searching for multiple forums for one contest. I was actually wondering why so few people were entering given those odds.Actually this is the English thread, this is the German thread, and this is the French thread. Totaling around 800+ entries.
I only noticed by chance when someone mentioned the amount of German entries being less than 170 while the amount of German prizes awarded would be be 100.
Nonetheless, there is a huge disparity between the ratio of entries to prizes for each category.
The secret to winning was to just put on green and stand next to a cactuar. No, really. FIVE people won by doing exactly that. Meanwhile, some truly unique submissions that matched the npc(s) perfectly lost to things that weren't even remotely close.
If it makes you feel better my "How To Train Your Cactuar" image didn't win so I think the real secret is to be a Sylth. o_O
I also feel the need to stress that a costume doesn't necessarily make a doppelgänger; sorry but to me putting on crafters gear and standing beside an npc you don't actually resemble because it's the easiest shouldn't just make an auto-win.
Whatever the decision made regarding current player opinion and suggestion, it would be appreciated if a community rep or other official figure could clarify on whether or not they plan to take any action regarding this.
I'm still fond of the idea of an addition 50 - 100 winners. The overwhelming response from the NA region (in being almost like the response for all of EU) could be considered valid reason to even the numbers. It would allow a more critical selection to be introduced while adding some variety in content.
If they decide against this and any other form of action, it would be appreciated nonetheless to know that our concerns were simply read at all and that we might move on from this event, whether discouraged or hopeful.
Idk if I feel like adding additional winners after the fact is a smart idea. We went into this knowing there would be only 100 winners, and no one really complained until they lost.
If, for future events, they stepped it up to something more like 200 winners, that seems like it would be a much more reasonable route than the community team going "sorry you guys are mad, here are some more necklaces".
People are not mad because they lost per say. People are displeased at SE not following the credentials they required of submitters when picking the winners.Idk if I feel like adding additional winners after the fact is a smart idea. I understand exactly what you're saying and while that's an incredibly enticing argument I think it's likely that the prize distribution was selected due to the impression that a haiku contest would have that many more entries since, in nature, it was far easier to submit something. Therefore, no one would have any issue with the distribution when first submitting entries.
As it turned out, the doppelganger contest had nearly the same amount of entries, each of which requiring [arguably] more effort than a haiku. As such, it seems very one-sided, all other factors aside.
Although some of us here have come to the consensus that adding additional winners would alleviate many of the criticisms regarding how the contest was held, my main motivation is having some sort of acknowledgement that our voices have been heard at all. You might think, "But what if they simply say they will do nothing? You'll still be angry!" ... but no.
Ah dang, I didn't know there were these kind of event contests. I need to visit this forum more often. I like taking screenshots in this game and I think this one may have followed the rules.[IMG][/IMG]
That's an amazing screenshot! It certainly would have been within the best submitted, I think.
