Is in game gambling allowed?

I was wondering if in game gambling was allowed. No real life anything is being traded. I was thinking something along the lines of people pay me an amount of money and depending on how many attempts it takes to meld an item to full or what I item I get when I convert something I would give them their gil back , double it, triple it, or if they fail keep it. I sent in a support ticket asking and they just gave me an automated response. So I was wondering if anyone knew if it was allowed. I went through the terms and I didn't really see anything that said gambling wasn't allowed. If anyone has any comments or something that could help answer that posting below would be appreciated.

I'm not sure the official stance for FFXIV. But I know with other games it is completely allowed, as long as there is no scamming. If the person running the casino doesn't hold up their end of the agreement and doesn't pay out, then it becomes a scam, which is actionable. But as long as the person running the casino pays up to winners like they agreed then it should be ok.

Most games that implement bans do so more because the chatspam becomes an annoyance to basically everyone. WoW, for example, allows it so long as you don't advertise in /1 and the like. (At least, that was the policy as of the last time I played.)

I don't see any specific casino policy for FF14, but it's worth keeping in mind that spamming chat with advertisements might get you in trouble anyway.

EDIT: This is, of course, assuming that it's legitimate. If you're doing it as a scam (and I'm sure a large enough number of scam casinos would lead to a ban on the practice as well), then you're obviously breaking the rules.

It wasn't banned for chat spam. Everyone knew the Casinos were on top of the Lower Jeuno AH. The problem is that Casinos are geared to mathematically be profitable to people who run them. I say problem because eventually someone is going to complain about it and that is when SE will decide that it's more trouble than it's worth to let continue, just like before.

Actually, this is not true, /random casinos are allowed, and any GM will tell you this, however you can report people if they scam you (e.g. don't give you the gil agreed upon when you win)

There used to be a guy in FFXI (on the Titan server) who would stand in Jeuno offering gambling odds. It would be odds based on /roll. He was never banned and it provided entertainment. It's just another creative way to make money ingame.

In all the MMO's I've played trust trading has always been a very fine line, the spam and complaints that come with it just isn't worth it to be honest. I don't want to see someone do nothing and make millions, that's not how MMO's should be.

Only major catch is that this would be an easy out for those suspected for RMT. People would be claiming that hundreds of thousands of Gil sent to them by another player was won via gambling (whether it be who caught the most Raincallers during a single storm or who was able to find some random named character first). It'd really just be more trouble than its worth for SE.

I recall some mention of a Golden Saucer during a live chat this summer. I, for one, am looking forward to such content for my gambling fix. Although, it maybe quite sometime before we see anything like it with the current content progression. There's no reason it couldn't be added, but it would likely have automated odds of winning (Chocobo racing anyone?)
