For the kite method, don't actually touch the adds. Just slowly work your way around the room with the King while they derp around the room with nothing to do.

The King cannot gain more than 5 stacks of Rancor, as I found out on a speed run spree. We decided to see how high it would go, and the sixth and seventh kills didn't add to his stacks. But it's also a damage race. The stacks deal 1000 damage per stack, so you look at your tank's HP and determine how many he can withstand.
So what we do, and what I've been doing for some time, is that one damage dealing player (usually a caster) is on add-duty, and doesn't go above 3-4 kills before King uses Grudge. The other damage dealing player is on King ALL the time. Use LB2 as soon as it's up.
Another strategy is that you let the tank pull and hold all adds, and burn the King down with both damage dealing classes. Yes, he gets slowed and heavied, but as long as he maintains threat it seems he can do his job. The healer's job is really tough on this one cleansing what she can, but this means the King gets fewer stacks. I had a run doing this where the King never got more than one stack.
It's possible to simply ignore the adds entirely and just burn the boss if your party is geared enough. The adds don't hit the tank for all that much and when there are a bunch around the boss just drop an AoE LB to clear them.
The group I run with uses this same strategy. Tank reverse kites king around the arena and DPS just attack and ignore the adds. The adds will slowly follow the king and the tank just maintains appropriate distance from adds without them coming close to party. After a few laps around the arena, the smaller tonberries should all be grouped together. A caster DPS will LB the smaller tonberries while tank continues to kite. The larger tonberries will slowly follow the tank while dps kill king. When I tank WP, I tell everyone to ignore the adds and not use any AoE. Just focus on the boss only and let me do the rest. I move boss around the arena and have only died to this boss 2 times ever(out of over 30 runs). 1 time when I first fought the boss and last week when a BLM in a pug group did LB early which didn't kill boss thus damaging the adds which caused them to attack and stop following me.
Once you outgear the fight as a tank, you can put 1 dps on the boss and tell the other dps to kill them all. As a warrior I just pop Thrill Of Battle through grudge and innerbeast it back. And Save foresight for the fourth or fifth grudge. If the dps doesn't down it before grudge kills you it's a dps check/wipe.
If I'm on my paladin I just tell them to kill them all and 1 dps on the boss, when I see grudge get me to 10% or less I hallowed Ground the next one.
there is. had our relic paladin today play a joke by wearing ghost costume down to 4200 hp and he took 4-5 rancor just fine (its called stoneskin). but as many have said i have only had bad experience with kiting tactics and never a bad case even with bikini/ghost troll tanks on the killing adds tactic. also if you have a paladin tank thats undergeared you can go up to 5 stacks and just have them pop hallowed ground for the everybodies grudge.
I've never had issues with WP. I just have one of the DPS kill the adds nonstop and as long as the healer is on top of things, I never die. Then again, 5 stacks of the buff will never kill a Warrior. WOO!
If your healer is not terribad, and knows how to time stoneskin right before the big attack hits, then a cure/cure II right after, you have zero problem with this fight and it becomes extremely easy. One DD can just kill adds as they spawn, other DD on boss. Or, I've also done everyone stands in melee range of boss, and both DD's switch to adds once they are in melee range. Either way you do it, its and easy fight. If you stoneskin on tank right before the big attack hits, he wont die. I think you ended up with a crap healer OP, and that's why you wiped 3x.
A geared paladin can easily tank all the stacks of rancor as long as the DPS kills the boss before those stacks are enough to 1 shot him. I've eaten as many as 7 of them and live with like 400hp and popped all my CD's. Keep in mind that a paladin can pop rampart, foresight, and sentinel -> shield oath for really really reduced dmg (laughable damage), and hallowed ground to completely eat it with no dmg.
