    Tonberry King strat for WP

I was wondering if somebody somewhere came up with a new strategy for Tonberry King recently. Up until today, I've never had a single problem with fighting him as a tank, but for the very first time, I've wiped 3 times in a row because the DPS couldn't decide on how to deal with adds. I had people saying to kill only 3 at a time until Everybody's Grudge, and I had another person saying to kite the adds around the room. The problem with the first strategy was that while waiting for EG, I get Throat Stabbed to death by the ones they didn't kill, and the problem with the second one is that the kiter gets zapped by some instant ability the adds have. The way I've always done it for over 40+ times was that the DPS simply kills any adds that appear, then use melee LB on the boss when the slashers appear at the end. If the boss somehow gets 4 or 5 stacks of rancor, I just pop a CD or Hallowed Ground to survive it.

Let the adds march toward the center and kill 2-3 so that he gains only that many stacks of the buff. After he uses his special ability and the stacks drop off kill 2-3 more. For the last phase bring everyone in close to boss and focus dps on the King before the big guys make it to the center. There are other strats depending on what tank you have but this is the basics.

If the kiter is getting hit with the heavy debuff then the healer should be removing that debuff. It makes the flow of things much easier if they're the ones killing adds. Also they should attempt to hit any of the smaller tonberries that get close so that way they draw aggro off you. (What I see Bards do is use their AOE move to get the tonberries attention) that way they can keep kiting and killing without much issue

In every party I've ever been in (even in poorly geared groups) I've always just had one DD stay on the boss and the other kill the small tonberries as they spawn (while still attacking the boss as they can). Everyone's grudge has never one shot the tank for me.

BLM deals with the adds, 3-4 stacks of grudge, rinse repeat. Once the full LB is ready DRG uses it and the boss is dead.

I've done it two ways, but depends on the DDs. Best seems to be BRD, who draws aggro from all adds until the Stalkers/Slashers spawn. Kill 3-4 between Grudges, whichever the tank decides. Had a 7k+hp WAR once, so he could've probably taken 5-7 if need be. I've done it as DRG, basically the same strat as BRD. Kill 3-4 of them then just kite til King uses Grudge, rinse and repeat til Stalkers/Slashers spawn in, then everyone wails on the King.

I'd assume a SMN could bind-kite them as needed, BLM too but they'd be really squishy. MNK about the same maybe... not too sure.

I've always just had a very straight-forward fight.
One or both DDs kill all adds as they spawn and get boss when available, tank stay on boss full time, and I keep everyone full HP.
Never had any difficulties or even any near-death instances with this strategy.

This works if the tank has the HP to sustain 4k hits from Everybody's Grudge and if the healer can keep the tank topped up for when it comes. Alternatively, the tank can just kite the boss and all adds, keeping away from the little adds as much as possible as they are what give you the nasty purple slows. Kill no adds and the tank doesn't even notice EG.

Or, a combo. Start with kill all, but when the numbers start getting overwhelming go to kite (advantage is far fewer adds to worry about keeping at bay and lots more time to build up massive aggro for kiting stage).

All end the same: when countdown starts with final large adds burn down/LB boss for the kill.

Just tell dds to smash adds, your healer should be able to keep you up through the rancor buff.

Do not go beyond 4 stacks unless the tank is really really well geared. Even then it's iffy.

ie. Last run I did, the DD could not understand that and the tank kept on getting one shot.

There is no way I can heal an attack that does more damage than the tank has life.
