I understand that maybe they take "Human" form to interact with other people but I liked the more grim reaper appearance and utter mystery behind them in 1.0.

I actually hope they re-introduce the reaper style as something more important than the Ascians and a individual entity of it's own.

With any luck this is the case and the next final boss for the main scenario is the skeleton version.

Ascians holding a human like appearance are overlords, those skeletal ones are lower tier Ascians. That other guy is Tranvanchet. While he's never confirmed to be an Ascian, it is very obvious he is one. He's simply not weaping the Ascian robes.

I still remember that cutscene from 1.0 when you first see an Ascian in Thanalan and how the said cutscene made me fill chilly down my spine @_@ I miss the 1.0 Ascians for sure!
