FFXI af could take months to years to get but those were the days when people were willing to work for it and suffer.

mmo's are dead thanks to the I want it now generation of gamers who are impatient.
FFXI actually took THAT LONG to accomplish things though. There was always something you could do to better yourself or obtain due to gear swapping. Gear swapping was the greatest creation ever. It to this day makes every facet of endgame relevant for a 10+ year old game.
FFXI took months to get your first 75, not 2 days of Abyssea... I mean FATE grinding.

The issue is that with FFXIV you are not in control of how fast you go. It feels like a f2p system attached to a p2p game... "Best gear in the game: limited dungeon run 1-time a week, myth caps @300". Please do not compare old school FFXI to this. There was content to do in NA release of XI (RoZ), the only barrier was how much you were willing to put in.

That is a steaming pile of BS. If you CHOOSE to FATE grind, that is your choice. But YOU are in control of how fast you level your character. No one can make you power level, you chose that for yourself. So don't blame the game, the game maker or anything else for your own play choices.
