What are the benefits of crafting to someone who is already geared?

I enjoy the crafting classes, but I am about to abandon the ones related to non-consumables (arm/blk/leather/etc) in light of the fact that eventually they become obsolete when i80+ gear becomes available, or when wearing the current i90 af or allagan armor.

Are there any benefits to these specific DoH classes other than repairing your own armor?

Gearing jobs that are not your main focus and so cannot, reasonably, be equipped with the bestest most awesomest raid gear seems to be the popular opinion of many crafters I know.

At least, this is the hope we cling to as we move forward in a game where crafting has very little use outside of the initial wave of elit-- sorry, hardcore players trying to reach the end of the end asap.

Hardcore crafters likely have several things in mind. Once, people will level other classes and they will probably have sold or converted all their previously usable equips into materia. Two, people still join the servers or create new characters and will still buy equips as they level up. Three, Crafting classes outnumber the amount of war/magic classes. If there's not going to be more to them than what there is, there wouldn't be such a huge amount of them with so much work put into their creation. And last, it's fun. Seriously! To me as I level all crafting classes at the same time by 5 levels each, it feels like a big puzzle making stuff needed from one class to use in another. I love it.

Course, I have a teammate in my Free Company that compares crafting to getting a hole drilled in his head. ^.^;; It's not for everyone. And those people are also those you'll be able to craft for!

And on another note, don't level your crafting classes for repairing. I don't think any crafter repairs anything (you have to switch classes just to repair a certain item afterall). It's seriously annoying and pointless. Easier to just find a Mender (which are like everywhere).

I level it because it's fun but....wait for it....you'll need gears for secondary classes or classes that have not come out yet. Who to say they can't just add in more recipes when new classes arrive. Or housing, that one needs crafting. Or pvp, that one might need crafting.

THIS ^^^^! Repairing is currently so seriously f***ed up that nobody I know ever use it - it's way much more convenient to use NPCs and not even that much more expensive either considering the cost of dark matter. This needs a MAJOR overhaul asap.

Also - nobodody has mentioned it yet - one of the very usefull features of the crafters is - melding!

I have all classes to level 50, including crafting classes, all my crafting classes are completely geared out in the best equipment too. I use crafting classes for one thing and one thing only, making money. As far as I can see, there is almost no point in crafting at all for end-game content. Level 50★★ recipes are alright, that equipment is good if you HQ it and meld it, but you'll spend so much money putting 3-5 material in each piece that it just isn't worth it in the end (you'll spend millions of gil just to gear one class), you mine as well wait for allagan, AF2, or CT gear. Oh and another thing, in my opinion gil is pretty worthless too, I only spend it on 3 things... teleporting, food, and repairs... which are dirt cheap, there is no point in having a level 50 crafter repair your gear or for you to repair your own gear, when NPCs can repair mass amount of equipment for almost no cost at all.

Seriously, crafting classes are almost worthless...

I think its time you find a different game. You've beaten this one.

There are tons of people with all 50s, most the people in my FC have all 50s, it really isn't anything special. In fact most the people I know from 1.0 have all 50s. Anyways, I still haven't done all the content in this game and there is still new content coming out, like Crystal Tower for example.

With all the quest rewards from doing class quests, I am able to regear my classes without doing crafting, and that to me is a major flaw in the quest system. You shouldn't get all your gear from quests, and giving a tool/weapon/shield for completing each and every class quest is killing crafters ability to sell gear that they do craft (ALL of my classes are lv20+, including CUL and FSH), and I haven't even had to buy/craft any gear for my ACN as I leveled it from 1-23 (other than getting GC gear at lv20 for better stats than anything else available). My inventory is getting filled with lower level gear than my current levels, just from completing lv1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 class quests when all classes were 20+ and geared from Legacy.
