Okay, I think I finally solved the problem. Apparently, in the early days of my getting a computer, as a college student, I was sent a microsoft offer for a certain piece of free software. That free software, which happened to be an SQL Server, was the primary culprit for me. Now everything's working fine for now. But if I experience further problems, I will be sure to come back.

I've been having this problem too. I'll be in an instance or dungeon, and out of nowhere suddenly get a lag spike which turns off my PS3 controller, forcing me to quickly reset it before I get killed. There's no set time frame either, but it seems to happen a lot in the hard mode Ultima fight, and the extreme mode Garuda fight.

I play on PC, and I've had this problem w/ my keyboard. I'm playing just fine, no lag, nothing. Then suddenly, out of the blue, all my keyboard controls become completely unresponsive. It seems to be completely at random; it has happened during fights or when I'm just running around.

Rescinding my "I fixed it!" post... again... I feel like I work for hours on a fix, then when I finally come to a proper, honest fix, I shut down my computer for the night, come back the next morning, and the problem's back in full force, like some kind of a mutating virus.

I think I'm done playing FFXIV for now. I really don't want to go--and I really do mean that. This is an absolutely awesome, wonderful game and I would love nothing more to continue logging in every single day and play it to my heart's content. But with these controller issues... I just can't do it anymore. I've contacted FFXIV tech support at least three times and followed their steps, I've pursued my own extreme fixes when their steps didn't do anything, and I've even attempted to play with a keyboard and mouse which, for me, is exceptionally difficult due to the sheer amount of commands I have to have at the ready at any given time. And I've already spent over $100 on hardware and software aside from FFXIV in an attempt to fix the issue by purchasing controller after controller, and before telling myself to stop, I was going to spend another $100 on a copy of Windows 7 to downgrade and wipe out everything on my system JUST so I could play. But there are limits to what I should have to do, as a player and a proud subscriber to this game, to ensure that a game plays as intended.

The instant I hear word that this issue gets fixed, I will immediately come back without question. This is not an "I hate your game and I'm leaving" post, this is an "I love your game, but I can't play it right now" post. And I just can't play it right now. I really wish I could, but I just can't. And I hope some community rep posts in this thread just once to at least confirm that these problems are being seriously, seriously looked into.

I have to say I am in the same boat with you... I do just about any possible fix but it seems to be absolutely at random if the controller decides to work or not. It is extremely frustrating to not know and, to reiterate your sentiments, equally frustrating that we have been posting about this for over a month without a single reply or any recognition that this is accepted as a possible issue.

I am going to go down some steps regarding my Windows 8.1 but it seems like its somewhat of a fruitless effort. I echo Hakuro's sentiments - I would really appreciate recognition of the problem and some investigation regarding what could be causing it.

So you are mad that you have to do something to play the game? I don't even... huh?

It's pretty clear from Hakuro's (and everyone else's) responses on this thread that the issue is that the way we choose to play the game (i.e. with a gamepad) doesn't work correctly and no one can tell us why or how to fix it. That's been brought up in every single post, and not a single one has complained about "having to do something" to play the game - we've been trying to "do something" and due to technical issues we cannot. Reading without being ignorant might help clear up the whole "I don't even.. huh?" thing.

@ Hakuro and crc: Thanks for the ideas. I'll try them out tonight and get back to you.

I was not born with hands that allow me to use the Ctrl+Num commands. That paired with the fact that my right hand is on my mouse at all times, I figure that, if I use a keyboard and mouse, I only have access to six of my hotkeys at any given time using a keyboard and mouse while still retaining full movement. As I play a MNK, full movement is absolutely mandatory.

On a gamepad, that number rises from six to sixteen with full movement AND reduces screen clutter.

Logically speaking, which would you prefer?

And while I'm here, I should mention that I STILL have not had problems with my controller being unresponsive after the port forwarding issue, so I think my issue has been completely solved. crc, Angeles, if you guys could post confirming or denying whether the solution fixed for you, then that might help to finally nip this issue in the bud!

@Hakuro, that's great to hear! The most frustrating part of this issue has been not knowing if I've actually fixed anything or if it's just decided to work for a while, so I'm optimistic (especially considering that your fix came from the support center itself). I'll set the port forwards now and get back to everyone once I'm able to take it for a test drive.

@Necrosis: I want to say that I was a little bit hostile in my response to you and I apologize for saying you were "ignorant". I've been frustrated greatly by this issue but it doesn't justify being rude.
