Controller becoming unresponsive periodically

I am having the same issues with two separate Xbox 360 wired controllers, one an actual Microsoft one, the other third-party. I had the issue about a week and a half ago and fully updated all of my drivers through Microsoft Update, which seemed to alleviate the issue with no concerns, but then it came back again over the last couple of days. Basically, every 10-15 seconds my controller "locks" in one direction, which bars me from entering any other commands and causes me huge aggravation and annoyance.

Could it be possible that this is an artifact of the last maintenance? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the controller driver, as well as disabling and re-enabling my USB controllers - no dice. I'm on a Samsung laptop running Windows 8, and I cannot even find drivers on the Samsung site - there isn't even an option for the model number of my laptop.

If there's any way at all that this is a server issue, can someone please look into this? I'm enjoying playing with a gamepad quite a bit and having these issues is really making me rethink playing the game.

EDIT: Used both controllers with multiple games through Steam, no issues whatsoever. Seems like it must be a FFXIV server-side issue, otherwise why would my installed drivers work fine with other games?
