This thread is the equivalent of watching 1.xx videos. You guys are all making me really sad and I miss everything that's been mentioned and more.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but I miss belts, and physics on clothing, the way your character leaned into a run and took a moment to stop. Also, my path of the twelve companion. I played a female Miqo'te because they were gender locked at the time, and my path companion (also a female Miqo'te) was seriously hitting on me. Lesbian cat action was weird, but kind of funny, and the dialogue for the companions was really well written.
Well the problem isn't really that there is a main story but that the questlines are isolated so it feals less like a world of interconnected stories. I mean, you do the main scenario, the hildibrand questline, the class and job storylines, the profession quests, the grand company quests and soon realise that all of those are completely separate from each other. The way I saw it in 1.0, the individual storylines were more connected. Urianger in the Hildi questline, Sisipu in main scenario, Nael van Darnus in Grand Company quests. It expanded the same story horizontally therefore gave the impression that both it and the world is bigger.
I still think ARR is a great game and it hurts to see most here think it is a piece of garbage abusing the Final Fantasy name, but there really are a lot of things that 1.0 did a lot better. Still it seems the world was not ready for 1.0-s innovations so drastic changes were necessary to make the MMO marketable. Perhaps gradually bringing back some of the old features could occur later. Untill then, enjoy all the stuff comming with 2.5
I miss the way dodos used to undulate.

I feel like 1.0 would have done well if they:
1. Finished the base game and had actual content on release.
2. Had viable graphics settings for lower end systems.
3. Avoided all the awkward anti-bot systems they had that ultimately did nothing but inconvenience the regular player. (the old markets for example)
I miss the great job they did with the camera movements during cutscenes in 1.0. Whoever was on that task should be hired right away back in! Cutscenes feel so dull and non-cinematic in 2.0.
1.23 was an amazing rework of the materials given and bloomed as impossibly brightly as the 1.0 engine could and there IS A reason why it endd when it did.
All of this can be attributed to Lord and Savior Radiant Yoshi-Producer Savior of the Gaming World and He who Designs Most True. He snatched us from the clutches of The Tanaka and delivered us into a new more robst future like a magical elf grandpa.
1.23 and 2.0 were developed at the same time and 1.23 died as it did bcause it was beautiful poetry sculpted from tainted tarting materials that could never be further redeemed, it reache its highest art and then isappeared before it could be learned to be scorned, you will forever miss it from its glorious ascendance.
Now Yoshi P and his disciples the Fox and the Souken have had time to prepare their great works, all the while putting mere mortal development teams to shame with the armada of content they lay before us to behold in its imperfect but rising evolution of quality.
Neither Nael nor Urianger were part of the 1.0 original storyline. They were part of the 7th umbral storyline, that were identical with the 1.0 GC storyline.Well the problem isn't really that there is a main story but that the questlines are isolated so it feals less like a world of interconnected stories. Sisipu was part of the original storyline because of the "let introduce all the guilds in the starter city to the player" part at the beginning. Once you finished the starter city story part with the rank 15 storyquest and joined in the rank 20 storyquest the Path of the Twelve (the Echo support group from Minfillia), you never saw her in the mainstory again.
I wish they had a 1.0 server, you could transfer to for a little while, just to get your nostalgia on, and work on some of those legacy achievements that will never get completed now.
