I must agree with this.i miss alot from 1.x, but there is one thing i miss especially, which made me love FFXI/FFXIV so much more than most MMOs.
the camera during fights.
the way the camera was set up to be behind your character rather than above it and zoomed out far made it feel like i'm actually fighting and not just playing chess
but now with all those flashy effects and aoe circles everywhere we end up with
this sure had a big impact on me, as i loved 1.0's combat, even with all its problems
Camera in ARR feels weird.
Llan Hana.

Sigh...
I miss how Miqote had tail armor on Darklight and Dragoon AF ; ;!!! SE Fix it!!!Dragoon AF looks sooo lame on F Miqote now

Depth of Field outside of cutscenes.
Being able to draw weapons while doing emotes.

Coerthas, Coerthas's music, (the old) Freeze, Burst, Initiate & Absorb rotations, Holy Succor, Sacred Prism Stoneskins & Cures, Divine Veils HoT, Simian Thrash, Aegis Boon, motion capture.
Just little stuff really, but i find myself missing them. ^^

- hamlet defense and provisioning
- chocobo caravan escorts
- being able to turn fish into crystals/shards
- being able to break down clusters into crystals or crystals into shards
- shards/crystals/clusters dropping from mobs
- being able to Bloodbath -> Steel Cyclone a big group of mobs and fully heal myself on WAR
- some of the old character animations
- doing emotes with weapons unsheathed
- open-world dungeons
- having to fight your way through the beastmen camps, and the NM's at the end
- DRG jump moves actually evading attacks
- not having to use 9 cokes, peacock ore, etc. to make high-end crafting items, and not having to spam dungeon runs to get them in the first place
- fighting/chasing after Atomos at the aetheryte nodes
- storm weather having actual bolts of lightning in the sky, and not looking like someone quickly flipped a light switch on and off
- old Coerthas (although i also like how it is now)
I might think of more later...

Ohh the crafting music XD. We dont have the *whistling* music anymore :/

I miss the vast space of 1.0, it felt like undertaking an adventure in its own right when going from say Uldah to MorDhona...The sense of accomplishment when you managed to get to hard to reach camps, managing to sneak past level 90 mobs without getting aggro is something thats missing from the game now. The areas as they stand are far, far too small. I understand the areas outside the cities are meant to be relatively safe but when you can go anywhere via chocoporter under 3 mins it kind of diminished the open world experience.
As a fan of 1.0 in its later phases i also miss the combat, it was far less spammy now. Unless you have ADHD theres no time to think, just button mash on the melee classes. Mages have a slightly better time of it as they get to stand back and miss the multicoloured fireworks display that blocks out the mobs your supposed to be fighting when up close.
On a final note i hope Skirmish makes a reappearance!
"Your former glories and all the stories, dragged and washed with eager hands..but oh your city lies in dust my friend!"
2.0 zones make me feel like I'm in a miniature golf setting. It is so compressed and congested.
I certainly like the vision of 1.0 more. It's very sad that they chose to re-cut that gem instead of polishing it. I'm glad to have experienced it if only for a few months though.
