Ping Times: Am I in trouble or am I ok?

Here is a run of WinMTR to the game servers today. Please tell me if I will be ok or if not.

I already called Comcast about the 2nd entry in the list and they advised me this is the IP address of the Head End and if it was actually having issues everybody be calling in with an outage report. I have no clue but it seems bad to me.

If your worst is accurate then not really, you want a steady, stable ping not a ping that goes from 35 to 142 down to 39, mine comes out at 140/143/142, slower than your best but stable, if you can get yours to not jump about like a Lala on crack then it'll be fine.

@Lexxuk thank you for the reply. How do I get my ping times more stable. I've thought about battleping but is that really necessary to add another sub or can Comcast help me and just at this time hasn't?

Check to see if your ISP uses Ecoylas to prioritise traffic, gaming is tagged with say 0x00 and P2P 0x20, if they do and your gaming is tagged incorrectly then the Ecoylas won't always give it priority over all other (non time critical) traffic. My ISP has marked mine incorrectly (0x80 rather than 0x00) so are trying to fix it, not sure if your ISP does the same.

If you're on ADSL you could be put on Fastpath or if already on Fastpath be taken off it, Fastpath reduces your ping but introduces an element of instability, if you're on Fibre, reboot your router?

It doesn't really matter what your ISP, or ping is, you will lag in this game, because SE's servers are the worst in all of MMO gaming. Here's the 120 page thread on the topic if you want to read more: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...thing./page119

Short answer is, if you find the game mostly playable that's the best you are going to do.
