    Stopped working at character select

    I played for 8 hours while working yesterday with absolutely no issues. I randomly got the error "Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn has stopped working". And now, every time I log in, click start, and choose my character, I get the same error.

    I uninstalled the game, reinstalled it.
    I uninstalled my video card drivers twice.
    I changed my password twice.
    I uninstalled the game again, and reinstalled. I logged on this morning, and then it crashed after about 20 minutes with the same error.

    I'm at a loss.

    So after uninstalling again, the game let me in. I set up my UI and played for about a day.

    Today, I go to log in, and I get the same error. My boyfriend suggested that I save my "C:\Users\me\Desktop\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn" folder to my desktop so I wouldn't have to redo all of my UI.

    I uninstall, reinstall, login, and things are fine. I log out, switch the folders, try to log in, and it errors. I switch the folders back to the new/unchanged one, and it lets me log in with no error.


    Any replies would be super helpful.

    It simply means that your char's config got damaged. Your UI is in ADDON.DAT.
    You can try replacing that single file and see if it works.
    If you see a file big 0KB it's probably the damaged one and can remove it. That should solve the issue.

    I'm having the same issue, every time i click start it crashes, only done it since updating to Windows 8.1

    -Edit-

    I just tried the ADDON.DAT. removal and it didnt sort it, anything else i can try to fix the problem??

    I suggested to readd ADDON.DAT to her folder because she remade it. It was a way to not lose her UI config.
    Yours may or may not be related. If you reinstalled the game it could crash because 8.1 is missing wmp codecs if I'm not wrong and it cannot start the video.
    Otherwise you can try renaming the whole FFXIV_CHR folder.

    Okay so i've reinstalled it and had a look at the files to see what i could do, all my folders are very vague on whats in them, not FFXIV_CHR folder :/
