Our FC has already amassed 1 mil from member donations. This isn't much at all. And I disagree that housing should be easy to get. It should cost a lot of money. It does in real life. Inns are free apartments. Houses are houses. They aren't cheap.

Add some sewers under each city for us poor folk. Then we can live in the slums under the city, like in FFVII.
Problem is most people aren't going to be able to "Work their way up there." Land plots aren't infinite. They stated there's only so many of them unless I'm wrong. These plots are all going to go up very very quickly. As I said in another post, there's people that throw around 500,000 gil for free titan wins and throw around more gil to run around in High crafted gear that goes for 500-800k per piece.
I think the devs are going to be amazed at how quick these houses are gone.
Sadly it also means smaller FC's are going to have an issue retaining members if they can't get the funds to afford these houses in time as many will move on to FC's that do have these houses as well as their perks. In my opinion there needs to be something akin to LOTRO where there's an instance where these houses are sold and once sold out a new instance opens that can be chosen from a drop down list.

They should at least allow you to buy a cardboard box for 200 Gil, to start your housing needs. But, you can only put them on Pearl Lane in Ul'dah.
You know, demonstrations of an internal client version are highly unlikely to refelct the actual cost when the patch goes live.
You can get an idea of where they might be pegging it but also remember that 1) the prices probably arent final and 2) the cost depends on the demand. If people are unable to / do not buy the houses, the prices go down over time.
... That's it?
Hell, I'm all over that. I thought buying a small sized house would leave me house poor and unable to eat. That's totally afforable.
im quite disappointed with the fact of no personal houses till well after this patch the 1 thing i was really looking forward to.. i dont have a fc and nor do i want 1 for now .. the only thing i can think of is to start my own fc just for the housing option then having to compete with a auction system of massive guilds that would have far better funds than i sadly.. i think its a mistake..correct me if im wrong but having a auction system is that not just feeding the rmts
That's just it. People keep saying "Don't worry. If a land isn't being bought it'll go down in price." This isn't going to happen. They're all going to be bought up nearly immediately. Single players have millions upon millions of gil. There's people in this very thread going "850,000? That's cheap!" Small FC's won't get to wait until the price drops. They'll all be gone by then. Again, correct me if I'm wrong but they stated that there's only so many plots of land. Therefore, they will sell out eventually.i dont have a fc and nor do i want 1 for now .. the only thing i can think of is to start my own fc just for the housing option then having to compete with a auction system of massive guilds that would have far better funds than i sadly.. i think its a mistake..correct me if im wrong but having a auction system is that not just feeding the rmts
At the same time why make a highly anticipated feature and make it prohibitively expensive?
I agree with everyone that has been saying, if these are the prices for personal housing, expect Gil seller spam to get worse. He'll if they are going to stubbornly stick to the "plot of land are finite" and if they make them re-salable, the only way to get one will be through Gil sellers

850K is not bad. You call that small? Clearly it's better than a inn and it came with land... for encouraging wise spending.
I hope they introduce tents though, maybe we nomads can move around and set up anywhere we want if we're indecisive.
As you can compare a game-life to real-life, EVERYTHING is much more expensive(not for the light of hard). Remember what your 'ol folks told you when you were little, "If you want to do what ever the hellz you feel like it, get a job, make your own moneyz and buy your own house! While your under my roof, you do what I say." XD
