Melee has a disadvantage in EVERY MMO to date. It's as if people are unhappy that this has carried over into FFXIV. If you don't like being at a disadvantage playing melee, don't play melee.
Terrifyingly enough, Guild Wars 2 doesn't have that problem. In fact, it's the opposite...ranged has the disadvantage, melee has the advantage.
Ok nerf Bard dps - because they are support. You are forgetting small parties (4 and 8) players. Bard is QUEUED as DPS. If you nerf their DPS, now the same people that complained about how much they did, will now claim they aren't carrying their weight. Hopefully not nerfing it much, 4 man party dungeons would completely SUCK if TWO bards get thrown together as SUPPORT (i mean DPS). You should look at Bard class as DPS class with SOME support options NOT as a support class that is able to do DPS - parties in FF14 are too small for a "support" position.
It worked in FF11 because parties were six people - 1 tank, 1 healer, 1 support, 3 dps worked pretty good (at least when I played it - may have changed now)

How about the action damage trait working something like this:
"For every second standing still Action Damage is increased by 1% up to a maximum of 20%. While moving you lose 2% of this damage every second."
So basically it would be a buff that can have up to 20 stacks. Damage would ramp up the longer you stay still in a fight, and when you are forced to move the damage would drop off until you can re-establish your position. This can be further balanced as necessary by raising the increase and decrease amounts, e.g. +2%/sec stationary & -5%/sec moving
It certainly makes sense that it would be harder to fire a bow while running around versus standing still. This would keep all the mechanics of the class the same, gameplay style the same, and impact our damage while moving but still let us do damage while moving.
I still think it is unneccesary as the ONLY reason we can compete with other classes is because we can do damage on the move. And my fix does severely take away the effectiveness of kiting as you are always on the move. (could be fun to DOT, root, mob stand still a little, then start attacking again, but again this would be much slower going and not really kiting...)

I have no Clue why you and the other person who doesn't seem to actually look at my character level are talking about, my Bard is 50 I have done all the content and I know for a fact their DPS is suck-tastic the only thing useful about them is their songs which make them do even Less damage. Everything I said about them is true and if my job was level 25 how would I even know? Honestly look at my level before saying I don't know what I am talking about. If you are talking about fates/Low primordials you shouldn't call it a sucky DD as you have not seen much of its potential at LV25 anyway. I can tell you once you actualy become BRD you will get a noticeable boost in stats and you will see a difference, i'm not gonna say more as I am only LV36 for now, but I love it so far.
thats not true, boss mechanics determine that and most, if not all, MMOs have boss encounters that allow melees to completely ignore essential boss mechanics because they are... well... in melee
I wouldn't particularly mind a damage nerf, but it would be nice to have a wider variety of songs. I don't really feel much like a bard at the moment. (Also, some people already feel a little sad when they get bards as all their DPS in DF and cry about the lack of a dps limit break.)
There is no place in the current game for a "true" support class (aka the old bard). Whit the current contents if they boost the songs they break the game.
Thats why a nerf makes no sense.
