    Tonberry King strategies?

So, I've beaten most things in the game by this point. Titan hardmode, a few turns of Coil, AK... and yet the boss of Wanderer's Palace, the place that appears designed to be your first entry into endgame (Going by the fact that it drops level 55 gear, which would only be useful to folks new to endgame), is by far the most difficult boss I've seen so far.

I won't go as far as to say he's impossible, but every single time he's taken me multiple attempts and many deaths. I've asked folks on my server for advice, and about the only helpful tip I receive is "Go in with a full relic party and DPS him down." Which, when you look at the rewards from the dungeon, seem a rather insane requirement to have. To make matters worse, the first two bosses aren't an issue at all!

My main issue is thus: If we kill all the adds, Everyone's Grudge kills the tank. If we kill only three adds so the tank can survive, they spawn faster than we kill them, and the tank soon gets too overwhelmed. If we have a DD grab the adds and kite them, they get spammed with Scourge of Nym at a distance, which both hits harder than their standard attack and inflicts gravity.

So, what advice is there? I'd like to be able to recommend this dungeon to newer players just entering endgame. I'd like there to be an option for them other than "Yeah, run CM until you have your darklight." But as it is, I just don't see this being beaten by a group of people in the gear this content is supposedly designed for.

First, I am a fresh 50 and have yet to attempt this dungeon. I did a lot of research on it to get ready because I like to have some idea of what to expect as the tank. The best I strategy I found (Youtube) was to have the tank kite the king around the outside edge of the arena in a circle, the adds are slower and cant keep up. In the second phase, when the slashers show up, move to the smaller inner circle and kite there while dps burns him down. I wish I could remember who the author of the vid was to give him credit, but it escapes me at the moment. This is the strategy I plan to use when I get there. Hopefully someone who has done it already has a better strategy!

Have the tank run around the room like a maniac after the Slashers come out, or a little before then. Everyone should leave the adds alone at this point so that they only follow the Tank and don't bother anyone else. Depending on your DPS, you should have a full LB2 ready to go so have the Tank stop for a moment to have a Melee DPS (if available) use it on the Tonberry King. Then just burn him down.

This strategy worked long before I got my Relic or even Primal weapon with no problems.

Strange, every time I've run this the group has beaten it on first try, no matter what the setup. Maybe you're overthinking it a bit? What we usually do is have 2 DDs kill adds, have the healer be prepared to spam heals on tank when the hits get harder, then when the big tonberries start approaching everyone gather at the center and burn the king down as fast as possible (have a melee DD use single target LB if you have one, but we've also done this with 2 BRDs and have tank use LB for defense boost). Sorry can't give you any more advice than this. Sounds like you may be having some healer / tank issues though, if the tank is going down.

You tell one dps to dps the boss. You tell the other dps to kill three adds until he screams, rinse and repeat until the small adds stop spawning, then both dps go on boss until he's dead.

I did WP multiple times when I had bad gear and there is no reason what so ever for you to need relic players and burn him down when all you have to do is watch out for the buff
he gains when you kill an add. 1 buff = 1k extra damage on scream.

There are two strategies to it that are all but foolproof, depending on the gear level of your party.

1 - Tank tanks the boss, one DPS takes care of adds, kiting them as necessary and stacking the kills so that the tank will be able to handle Grudge successfully, depending on his HP, cooldowns and how good the healer is at keeping the tank topped off. First time I ran WP, I could only handle 3 at a time. Now, I can go as high as 6 if I've popped a cooldown, but I've only ever had to deal with 5 at the most. The other DPS focuses completely on the boss. Healer heals. Once the big suckers come out when boss is lower on HP, it's a DPS race to take boss down. Save lv2 limit for this point. This is a strategy that works best if your party isn't high-level.

2 - If you've got a well-geared party, you can just burn the king down. DPS may bother with a few tonberries at most. Mostly, tank just tanks and does some repositioning as needed. DPS unloads. Healer heals and even throws out some stone now and again. He'll go down very fast. Save lv2 limit for when he's lower on health and big adds come, just like the other method.

You can do this in full AF. There are few points you need to be aware of

    1) Healer and Tank have to know how many stacks they can handle, and let DPS know.
    2) DPS need to keep those stacks in mind, set focus target on boss so you can see stacks, and kite the rest until everyone grudge is used. If party is low on DPS, then most of the time you'll have only tank on the boss.
    3) Healer PoV: Esuna/Leeches heavy on kiter. Precast healing for everyone grudge when the stack is at maximum for tank's HP can handle.

Strategy changed depend on how geared you are. Right now, we ignore all adds and focus boss only. AoE when they reach tank and stop when pass maximum stack. Still working on speed run, but my best time right now is 19min.

My 1st WP run on 1st day of Early Access (via Duty Finder).

You should be glad that there are some changes after Early Access. Pudding boss was the hardest fight for WP in Early Access but now is a joke...
    - Pudding: lower boss's HP.
    - Tonberry King: Small tonberry no longer spawn after big one spawn.
