    Help with Garuda

Playing as a tank class (44 Warrior) i am struggling for some reason. i have studies you tube videos and i think i know the fight well. The problem I think revolves around hate or the healer. to try and keep hate i start out the fight running to her and using overpower>flash. then i use overpowerX2. i then go into heavy swing>skull sunder>butchers block. i aslo use the heavy swing>maim>storms's path. after going through a combo twice i use overpower>flash>overpower. but someone still pulls hate from me either before the first time to hide or the second time to hide behind the rocks.

It sounds like either the healer doesn't understand the hate level of their spells and therefore is trying to heal by spamming the higher tier spells or a combination of you and the DPS taking too much damage. Best advice here is to try your best to dodge the slipstream attacks to reduce your damage taken and tell the DPS you get to wait a little before opening up on her. Can watch the healer as well to see what spells are being used so you can tell them to stop over curing if that's the case.

Regen gives a ton of hate if used too early and each tick will give the caster hate, even if the target is already at full hp. Make sure your Healers don't cast it too early.

Also if you get a Scholar healer instead, ask them to put the fairy in Steady so they don't do the AOE regen at the start which gives stupid amounts of hate on the pet.

Use tomahock throw to initiate the fight. What I do next is start the first Butcher's Block combo. If I've got a substantial lead over the healer/dps, I'll pop berserk then heavy swing + maim then repeat the Butcher's Block combo. At that point, no one can touch my emnity.

Also this. Request the WHM not to put regen on you (or click the buff off yourself) when you pull. Garuda won't drop you in two hits as you position her.

If you get a WHM that starts with regen and not stoneskin, you're going to be in for a rough dungeon. You may need to explain how hate works.

Sounds to me like a bad group.

Mu suggestion would be to click off regen if the healer cast it on the pull. Also try hitting level 45\46 and getting your AF gear. It won't make much of a difference for dps but for Tanks the extra 2 levels plus AF gear should add a significant boost to damage/threat.

    Good luck with the fight.

Hey fellow adventurers, thanks for the input. I was out of town this weekend so sorry for the late reply. To MythicRose Ill try Tonahawk more to open and see how it compares to overpower. I have only run into the early regen on one attempt on accident.

Hi, I think this goes to basic understanding of tank enmity building.

Garuda is just 1 target for the tank really (don't need to tank plumes). You say you're using Overpower and Flash -- Don't.

Overpower and Flash are good for multiple targets, but for a single target Heavy Swing > Skull Sunder > Butcher's Block combo is far, far better. According to http://valk.dancing-mad.com/?page_id=231, you should get approx. 300+1500+4300=6100 hate from combo vs. 990+990+990=2970 from 3x Flash (and Overpower almost same as Flash). So enmity combo gives you about double the hate of Flash/Overpower.

Also you mentioned Heavy Swing > Maim > Storm's Path combo. Taking a quick peak using the above link, that combo is about 300+680+1180=2160 hate. Less than 3x Flash/Overpower. However, it adds buffs to your damage, which increases hate of your next enmity combo.

So here's what I'd do, and it's almost the same on every single target enemy (if there's multiple things to tank, then it's different cause you pull out Overpower/Flash):

    Tomahawk
enmity combo, and repeat until you're happy with sizable lead showing on enmity bar (mini bars next to party member names).
HS -> Maim combo (I hate Storm's Path personally. Mostly you want the buff from Maim. Use Storm's Eye when you get it at 50)
    enmity combo
    enmity combo
    HS -> Maim combo
    etc.

Additionally, you may put in the off-weapon cooldown abilities in between the abilities near the beginning. Weapon ability, other, weapon ability, other, etc. is optimal. Berserk and Internal Release (cross-class from Pugilist) can add to your damage, and thus enmity. There's also Potion of Strength that does roughly the same.

It's possible the healer is getting too much threat as well - but I think from your post that you're not building as much enmity as you could be.

Edit: PS. Tomahawk is ONLY useful for it's ranged properties. Once at the beginning is good. If you lose boss's attention and need to get it back at range, then Provoke + Tomahawk is good. But when up close fighting, you don't want Tomahawk.

Me and my FC friends struggled with this fight at 44, and waited until we were 46, and fully geared in our AF with appropriately leveled accessories. When that happened it was night and day difference for us. My war was like your at 44, with the HQ gear and all. WHM was runnin out of mp, and everything. I'm sure if we really pushed to our absolute limit, and did this 10 times, we prob could of skated by. But when we leveld up and did our AF quests, it was very easy for us. The enmity advise is very good info also. I've always been a WAR that spams overpower, flash, voke at the start, because it "seemed" to me it was the fastest effective way to glue the mob on me quickly, and avoid random mages from getting killed. I may try the butcher's block combo to see if its better it the future.
