Why can't you complete quests higher than your level?

You can accept quests a good few levels higher than yours if you have a crafty class up there at least, but it seems like you can't return/complete the quest before reaching the actual level of the quest. Why is this?

Say that you're looking for a challenge and trying to level up with a friend or three without just boring yourselves to death by spamming FATEs. You could go to areas 3-5 levels higher than you easily and do the content there. What's the point of not being able to complete quests just a few levels higher than yours in the first place?

I understand the need to make you unable to return some of the quests heavily above your level that way due to being able to switch jobs, but come on. Overdoing it pretty heavily.

Because you can just level a character to 50, go back and do the lower level quests with your level 50 class and just turn it in with your low level class to get the exp. They have to cap it.

Most quests are burned through your first leveling-up trip already, plus if this would stretch ~3 levels beyond your own while turning the quests in I would not see any problem with it.

Or at least make it so that you can't even accept the quests before reaching that level. At the moment it seems like you can, as long as you have some class that's high enough in levels.

This part annoyed me too. You end up with a red exclamation mark dirtying up your map and a quest hogging space in your Duty List

Nope, most optimal leveling for subclass is by doing FATEs and doing the SUB QUESTS as you don't have the main quest for it anymore, while in your first class, it's Main Quest + FATEs.

That's sort of beside the point though, isn't it? I was talking about what was likely to be done, not what's optimal. I doubt all that many take the cookie cutter content-skipping route anyway. People usually need the gear from quests first time around.

Yes, this is a problem. I'm surprised something like this made it through testing as it is incredibly frustrating to the player to accept a quest, fulfill the requirements, and not be able to turn it in. On my level 37 WHM I was able to accept some level 41 quests. I thought nothing of it because they were in the same zone (E. Thanalan I believe) as the quests near my level that I was doing. Once I completed them, I could not turn them in. Now this may have happened because I have a level 42 CRP, but my class was WHM at the time I accepted the quest. There's a simple fix - require you to be a DOM or DOW of the proper level to accept any quest that requires combat
