You are right that I don't know how to open the ports... I don't even know what you mean by that. It just sucks that the game was great until one saturday maintenance 4 weeks ago, after that it is just lag lag lag.

The problem with server-side-lag is....it would affect everyone IF the server never would be able to recognize a good chunk of the incomming data. Rubberband-effect.

The lag is getting worst per maintenance they done sometime i'll be fine one night the other night my friends would have lag and i be fine. I don't see this issue being fix asap but we can just keep hoping.

Not sure if this will help but SE has a stickied thread about ISP Throttling, they are asking people to submit info.
Sticky: Request for information: ISPs and P2P throttling

Hi all,
As posted elsewhere before, we are investigating issues that might be caused by ISPs classifying FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn as P2P software.
To give us a clearer view on how widespread this issue is, it would be much appreciated if everyone who experienced such issues could post the following information as a reply to this thread:- Name of ISPAgain, my apologies for the trouble this is causing and thank you for your cooperation!
- Country of Residence
- When does the problem occur (always, only during specific times?)
- Reference number from your ISP, if you raised this matter with them
- Aethingie

Try WTFast.
I have insane lag and near-immediate disconnects when I play. But using this thing, I've been able to play with super-minimal teensy-weensy lag.
The problem as I understand it, is that somehow the game is uploading packets back to the FFXIV servers, from our game clients, that overload whatever router you're using, causing it to start having trouble transferring data, and eventually reset itself. This is especially true for wireless routers. I have yet to come across a fix for this that players can do, so that shite is on SE's heads all the way.
I'm not sure whether it applies to modems as well, as I connect through my landlord's router for the moment.

start here , check results.

download the application and run it..if your not comfortable using the other method. Its safe

I posted there probably 2 weeks ago when I noticed my lag wouldn't go away. Also from my experience with lag issues in WoW, it does not always affect all the players in the same server. Not sure if this will help but SE has a stickied thread about ISP Throttling, they are asking people to submit info.

I'm beyond frustrated with Square Enix regarding this issue. At least in my case this is pretty much 100% confirmed to be on SE's side and it's due to bad routing from their servers to certain ISPs.
How do I know this?
- I currently play around 5 other online games and I average a 25ms ping on all of them.
- This problem started two weeks after release when they "upgraded" servers in order to allow more people in.
- I called my ISP multiple times regarding the issue while sending traceroutes and ping logs to them and they could not pinpoint the problem.
- My ISP doesn't throttle unless they find illegal cookies, which I'm sure SE doesn't use.
- I have a high end ASUS RT-N56U with a wired connection to my Gaming PC, I've also tested it without a router and a direct connection to the modem to no avail.
- I recently upgraded my internet from 25 Down/5 Up to 50 Down/10 Up and it made no difference. Here is a speedtest: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3043629367 and here is one to a Montreal Server where SE's NA Servers are apparently located: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3043632762
- I don't drop packets or get ping beyond 150ms.
- Playing this game on a VPN where I would first connect to an LA server and then to SE's servers which severally lower's my speeds and given me less lag and better results.
- Changing ISPs to Century Link, a DSL provider that provides worse service, is known to throttle, and gave me less speeds at 40 Down/5 Up gives me zero lag.
- Finally, the biggest evidence against Square Enix is that I can connect to JP servers right now and get zero lag. My connection on the Character Selection Screen also displays as "Excellent" as oppose to the "Good" I receive on NA servers.
It's funny because the last time I called Cox Communications, my ISP provider for the last 10 years regarding this issue, I was able to actually speak to a tech representative who also plays FFXIV and he says he receives the same problem, while another friend of his who also uses Cox but lives in LA doesn't.

My issue started at around the same time. You've explained better what I've been trying to say all this time. This problem began after a server maintenance and around the time more servers were added, so SE did something that screwed up a lot of players' connection to the servers. That megathread thread with almost 140 pages of people posting about constant lag is proof of it, and the lack of SE's response is rather aggravating. They may or may not be working to fix the issue, but this silence is making me pretty angry.I'm beyond frustrated with Square Enix regarding this issue. As it is right now, I'm just letting this month run and I won't activate my account again until things are better... and if they get better.
It is not the servers.. It is the internet backbone used by the Montreal data centers. It doesnt affect 100% of players because its location based, and depends on where you get routed thru to get to the servers.
This issue is not on the users end, and nothing that can be fixed by the user. It has nothing to do with computer specs or configuration. Has nothing to do with routing ports or all the other crap ppl continually suggest about this issue.
I know some ppl are trying to help, but if you do not have this issue, than you will probably continue to bring up ideas that require a fix on the users end. This is a waste of time now. We have enough data all over these forums to prove its not a user end issue. So while you are trying to be helpfully if you do not have the issue it would be best to just not comment.
