Can't play FF14 while psn is down?

Why is the ability to play FF14 on PS3 tied to whether or not the PSN is up or down? With how often it goes down, this seem like a terrible idea...I don't want to pay monthly for a game and have to deal with 3rd party servers.


Also, servers are down for a lot of people at the moment. Was supposed to do a coil run tonight. Guess that isn't happening.

I don't know for sure, but that's probably due to Sony's requirements rather than Square Enix's.I think it's the same with the Xbox in that you have to be able to connect to Xbox live even if you want to play FF XI (for example - as that doesn't need a gold membership to play). Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong though!

I'm sure that is the case, but it really sucks. I can get onto the web browser on my PS3, but can't log in to the psn, and thus can't play FF14. I feel if I have internet, that's all I should need because I'm paying for that separate service. I completely understand not being able to play other games online.

this is My Opinion. IF you truely Feel Strong about this then buy the PC Version as well this way you can play it whenever your PSN is down. Just remember to register it to you same account.

If you're already logged into the game, then you can still play while the PSN is down. You only need to be connected to the PSN to log in.

when was psn down. I was on ff14 last night as well as most of the day. Didnt notice PSN being down
