Bit of lowbe help, Talk me into (or out of) switching to Warrior.

Alright, kind of a silly thread, but.. I'm trying to find the class that "Fits" me.

I typically look for two things in a class

1.) Dynamic, if I'm spamming the same 3 buttons, I get bored.

and

2.) Useful. If all i'm doing is damage, even if it's a lot of damage, I don't feel like i'm contributing to the party, because everyone else is bringing damage too/

I keep bouncing back to monk, because I enjoy it, but.. #2 bothers me every time I get into a group, and usually leads me to bouncing to another class.

Pally, while robust defensively, boils down to Halone combo + flash/lob, not very dynamic. Warrios on the other hand, have the rotational freedom of a dps class, with reactive tanking which is perfect.. but apparently suck.

Thus this thread, rather than reading all the doom ad gloom (and Yoshi P going "Yo, we think warriors are fine, learn to play.") How ARE people handling warriors?

Any insight would be awesome, and thanks for even reading my wall of text

Alright: ADded info I had to cut because 1000 character limit:

1.) I have GLd, Arc, Lancer, and BLM at 20, mostly previous attempts from not feeling useful as a monk. None felt right so I went back.
2.) I generally can't do casters, ASthetically they just don't feel right to me, and cast bars really really bother me for some reason.
3.) My FC is gearing for coil, and as far as I can tell, very tank heavy, so i'll probably just grind monk up for coil, if I even get a spot, anyhow.. This'll mostly befor learning HM and going 32-50 (After I grind u pto 32 as a warrior)

Mostly, just.. read lots of bad things (and yoshi p kind of brushing off the issue) and looking for some insight from the people actually on teh ground playing warriors as to whether or not I should just give up the ghost and stay monk.

You can bypass the 1000-character limit by editing your posts.

If you want fun, go with WAR over PLD. It's pretty much universally accepted as the more entertaining tank to play. PLD is 1 combo and a cloud of buffs. You're fine until endgame, but if you're big on endgame stuff, WAR will be extremely frustrating right now due to being comparatively gimped. For easier content, you're just fine with WAR. It's really just the level 50 progression where WAR starts to suffer.

That's where my current worries lie. I am almost positive i'll be playing something else if/when I get to coil, but everything short of htat, I'd really like to stick to my "main" job, which would be WAR. would be a bit.. disheartening to get to 50.. then immediately switch to another job because the one I leveled is nothing but frustration.

Everything that has died so far, has died with Warriors as well as PLDs as far as I'm aware. Yes it is a bit harder to tank turn 4/5 as a WAR, but its very doable and even if you find that you can't do it, Warriors will change at some point. This is an MMO, everything changes.

I would encourage you to level them both to 50, although I would suggest PLD first, because leveling a PLD after having played a WAR at 50 will drive you mad (with boredom)

Maybe ask your FC how they feel about WAR, do they already have WARs (you said they were tank heavy)? If they don't you might ask them if they would find it better to have more options. I hear they're actually better for T4 off tanking because they're better at generating AoE threat (although it's still doable with 2xPLD). War brings a DPS/Threat boost for the PLD so that can be helpful. And eventually they'll probably add a boss or 2 where the WAR heal debuff will be desirable.

And if they're feeling creative, they might try WAR as a DPS option. Sure it does less DPS, but it's also sturdier and thus requires less attention from the healers (if there's lots of AoE damage going around). You'd probably need to get some DPS centric jewelry for this, however.

Up to titan, you will have absolutely no problem whatsoever with a war (WP, CM, praet, AK, ifrit, garuda, chimera, hydra). Titan will be hell though if you don't have a group of friends/FC -- you will basically have almost zero chances of getting a good pug willing to try it with a warrior.

My FC situation is.. odd, we HAve a LOT of members ( 260 or so), many between 30-50, and are organizing multiple raid groups, some more softcore, some more hardcore, etc.

By a "LOT" of tanks, I mean paladins, I know of.. 9? 50 paladins off the top of my head and at least 5 more leveling, and that's just the ones I've seen playing paladin, we've got a few others leveling other job atm. We have.. 1 50 warrior that I know of, and 1 46 warrior.. No monks, lots of WHM's/Dragoons/Bards.

So my issue isn't so much "Will they take me over another warrior", They'll likely have a group I can find a spot in, it's just.. we have so many paladins, i'd be worming my way in when there's likely a PLD who could fill the spot. A big part of team play is.. well, team play. for me, it's #2 on that list, if I feel like i'm holding the group back.. I tend to err towards bowing out myself (.. it's why I don't like pure dps classes, chances are, the extra 5-10% dps i'm putting out is better put to use by throwing a summoner in an getting buffs and more than enough dps to handle the content. Likewise, I could find a spot as a warrior, but if there's a paladin available for the spot, I don't want tobe the reason the groups being held back on progression.

It's a.. tricky situation.
