Bard in CM question/story

So Bard is not my main, but I have 3 pieces of DL, the rest AK, and a GC weapon. I have run CM many time as MNK,BRD, and WHM. The other day I got into a DF party. Party make up was PLD,WAR,WHM,SCH,SMN,BRD,BRD,BRD(me).

After the third boss one of the other bards said "f'n useless were you even playing songs?" I kind of scratch my head and reply "Are you kidding?" The other bards said he was playing requiem. I reply that CM from my experience should not require songs. I have never had a problem with TP or Mana. I wrote it off as people that had no idea what they were doing. My question is was I the idiot for not playing songs and sacrifincing 20% DPS or were they just /facepalm ignorant?

Foe Requiem doesn't lower your damage.

If they were singing and ran out of MP, and Foe Req was dropped, you should've put it up.

Those encounters don't last that long, though.


They were an ass, but still pay attention to Foe Req.

Well you only had 1 smn so you are really only helping 1 persons damage. For CM I wouldn't worry about it, I'm pretty sure you can beat that instance with 8 chocobos. Kweh!

PS I don't think I've ever used FR in CM cause I am a bads.

If your party was full of casters it would a great idea to rotate the Foe Requiem song* among the bards so its always up. It doesn't have any negatives towards the bard's own damage (besides wasted cast time, but its not a big deal).

Foe Requiem will make Caster AoE godly. This specific group didn't really call for it since 1 summoners damage would not out-way the entire party's.

Learn the bard songs. They are the biggest assets to any party in the hands of a good bard.

On another note. Also, if your healers were dpsing foe requiem helps their damage too.

*Song: Foe requiem currently does not follow the description in its tool-tip. It's been recorded to increase some non-elemental damage spells of casters too.

Thanks everyone. I use songs in other instances, but I guess I just often take cm for just a burn through ASAP, so I never use songs. I will keep an eye on FR from now on. One bard was using FR, but the one who was kind of a A$$ hat was using all the songs.

Yeah, I wouldn't use any songs but FR in CM.
