Wow... I'm not sure how much simpler I can make it for you. Gimme a second to think about it, my GF is a preschool teacher I'm gonna give her a call real quick. Why do you keep using Class and Weapon as if they are two different things?
Anyway if thats how you want it thats fine.
How I'd prefer it is
You Equip your weapon and are identified as being a user of that weapon.
When you level your weapon skill up to the appropriate rank you learn to specialize in a specialized role.
This role is given a name and called your Job (Job and Role are synonyms after all.)
Once you master this Role/Job you are now able to equip any weapon you want and perform the same role as long as your skill with said new weapon is on part with the requirements of the Role.
May not, that's the fun part. No one knows for sure, but it makes more sense to me that it would be.
I want to be a Dragoon and have a lizard with wings that has a breath weapon follow me around.
Don't even try Cairdeas is a person when he set his mind to something there noting you can do about it you just going to fight with him for hours at end trust me i did for hours in eorzeapedia.com to i found out there noting you can do about it lol.

And there is no reason you can't be DRG/LNC or DRG/GLA the difference between the two would just be one would have a lance/polearm with it's own weaponskills while the DRG/GLA would have a sword and it's own weaponskills.
Bloodlotus, you know if they were smart, they wouldnt lock a job to only one weapon type. that has been one of the flaws of the class system. The Job and class system together, you can define your role while using the weapon of choice, considering the weapon actually fits the class. aka, paladin probably wouldn't want to use a wand or bow. Class ranks could also still determine your HP and MP leves to some extent, so equipping a wand on with paladin job would make you have shitty hp, thus be a shitty tank.
You can say what ever you want it has no bearing on what those of us who asking for the freedom to use what ever weapon we want once we unlock and master the job. (Not what ever weapon we want to unlock the job.)
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Is a Goblin Longsword a Gladiator? They are two different things. A weapon and a ClassWhy do you keep using Class and Weapon as if they are two different things?

I can see the point, but I don't think they'll do that lolBloodlotus, you know if they were smart, they wouldnt lock a job to only one weapon type. that has been one of the flaws of the class system. I see what you mean, but I do think you are understanding it incorrectly.
