I still stick by my thoughts that the new jobs may have exclusive weapons for them and retain use of items that the class that was required to obtain them is. We are still not sure how Jobs will be obtained for certain but I'll just repost what I said earlier.

Yeah but as an extension I doubt they will be able to use anything other than the class that it branches from weapon. Unless they make specific gear for the new jobs as well. Who knows! Maybe they will use the class's equipment + new job specific junk.

    Lets say Marauder becomes.

    Dark-knight
    Or
    Warior

Both jobs can use the Great axes, but Dark knights can also use Scyths, and Wariors can use Great swords.

We don't have enough information to go on, so I doubt that "Jobs" will span the entire class system but who knows for sure?

Initially I can only use axes but if I want to use swords or daggers my Gladiator class needs to be level 10 or 20.
That would be fine by me if that's what it would take to have some weapon variety with my chosen job.

I do agree reaching a certain level to attain new types of weapons is a fairly decent idea. What I don't want though is for it to be "Every class can use everything" because you just start the same problem they are trying to fix allover again.

Homogony "anyone can do anything" is boring.

    Exactly.

It would be really boring if Warrior was relegated to only using Great Axes when Lances and and Great Swords have their place as well.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

But surely they're specialised versions of the current classes? Would be weird to have these two systems running in parallel and be unrelated.

Quests to unlock each job will become available once you have reached a certain rank in the corresponding class.
So you need to be a Conjurer before you can be a Black Mage, I would imagine. It would just feel weird to go back on the current system unless theyre planning on distributing new weapon types to each current class.

Rather than being advanced versions of classes, we would like players to think of jobs as specialized playing styles optimized for partying.
Thats from Matsui himself. They are NOT specialized versions of current classes they are Role Specializations.

But then why couldn't a Thaumaturge use Black Mage once you have that job unlocked? Thaumaturge has black magic too.

I think it's perfect for the whole stick/carrot thing. I see your point, but the Devs making jobs like a party only thing is their way of trying to set party roles. I think when people group together and take on dungeons, most groups will want people in a specific role or job. If someone is out soloing, I don't care what they are.

Because, at least in past-FF terms, there's a different between elemental black magic and the dark magic thaumaturge uses. I'm not trying to argue over it, it's just that the system your describing seems to contradict what we already have in place. I do like your ideas a lot, I just don't think it would work here being as, no matter how you look at it, jobs are going to be advanced versions of what we have now, catered to performing well in a much more specific role. They rely on what we have currently.
