Actually based on the description given by SE.
Jobs we Know do the following
More to the point it probably will/should also give its own stat trait modifiers like for White Mage 5 INT > 5 MND. or something similar. (Speculation but plausible.)Create a growth path for a player. The Job is a defined playstyle and it gives bonuses for using that playstyle. White Mage is Healer.
It locks out cross classing skills that are counter to the Job. A White Mage wont be using Magic. Etc.
It grants special skills that only the Job Would have. (Benediction, Holy, Auto-Regen, Re-raise)
So a Pugilist/White Mage will be able to cast cure spells and White Mage only abilities. And have stats modified to Fit.
So even if the White Mage is a pugilist he is still a healer. He might even get bonuses for the skills pugilist have that modify healing. So Second Wind probably will deal more healing to himself.
It is also plausible to say that any "Mage Job" has its own version of AOE casting that is not the same as Conjurer and Thaumaturge. For instance instead of having a toggle switch. White Mage might have access to the Curaga spell itself. So the Weapon isn't issuing out the AOE, the spell itself is. Not taking away the ability from the Weapons that grant it. Curaga alone might have lower AOE range and power when used away from Conjurer and Thaumaturge, but then once used on Conjurer and Thaumaturge it heals more and farther away from its casting point. Making Conjurer and Thaumaturge still the better choice for healing as a way to balance but not preventing a combination like Pugilist/White Mage from being usable.
