Paladins in Past FF's have all be able to use Bows.THM can solo tank certain things, but not everything. Lnc can't tank anything (tried and it doesn't work) Archer can't tank anything. Con can't tank anything. Pug tanks very well (probably better than GLA) MRD is a tank on lower level things, but not NMs. Problem? I understand that there are going to be Jobs that come out, but an Archer (non-tank) should not be allowed to move to a Paladin (tank job). It makes absolutely 0 sense.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Your point? Paladin wasn't good with a bow, despite being able to use them. Paladin's main 2 weapons were Sword+Shield and staff. Everything else was subpar and essentially useless. In some FF's, black mage could use a sword....but they should never use a sword. Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. Stop trying to justify being a gimp.
Healer strike is ridiculously foolish and accomplishes nothing
Your point is "Just because you can doesn't mean you should" That specifically is how you should look at the System. The game shouldn't limit you from those choices. You yourself should after debating with yourself if the choice you made is valid, or if it is counter productive.Your point? Paladin wasn't good with a bow, despite being able to use them. Again the GAME shouldn't force you into those holes, you should yourself, or by player opinion. The same way subjobs did in FFXI.

this isn't FFXI. This game, FFXIV, is a different game with different mechanics. If you want to play a whitemage, you shouldn't be able to use MRD (a class with no magical skills at all) to unlock it (A class with the best healing skills in the FF universe). This, again, goes back to Fire Emblem. Mages couldn't unlock Assassins. Thieves couldn't unlock Sages. It. Doesn't. Work. Again, stop trying to justify being a gimp.Your point is "Just because you can doesn't mean you should" That specifically is how you should look at the System. I didn't say Marauder would unlock White Mage. Most likely Conjurer Would. But once you unlock that Job and have it equipped you shouldn't be forced to stay using that weapon. IE you can then switch to Thaumaturge as your weapon and still be a white mage.

Jobs will not be based off of weapons (most likely) but they will (most likely) have a weapon that they are best with. If this happens, and someone is using the wrong weapon, they can expect to be blisted by everyone. The current system doesn't allow for retardation when it comes to gear. The new system will.Stop putting words into my mouth.

Fine but let those choices be up to the player and the playerbase. Not the game.Jobs will not be based off of weapons (most likely) but they will (most likely) have a weapon that they are best with. Some of the best fun I had playing past FF's and even in FFXI was doing things not "Normal" or "Against the Grain" for most people.
I played an entire Playthrough of FFT with 4 White Mages wield Hand Axes and each one using a different sub skill (One black mage, one geomancer, one thief, and one dragoon.)
Half the fun of playing Final Fantasy's Especially the ones with job systems is experimentation. Which means allowing a player to use everything at their discretion with proper penalties for going against the grain and making up for it with ingenuity

Using past FFs as an example of the way things should be is a flawed argument, as FF is not, and never has been, an internally consistent series.
Allowing this flexibility will require a lot more testing and balancing than limiting them... perhaps if they haven't designed it this way, they can consider opening job/class combinations in the future.
considering onion knight and dancer were able to use purses as a weapon im kind of glad the FF series isnt very consistant, its only so at its core.Using past FFs as an example of the way things should be is a flawed argument, as FF is not, and never has been, an internally consistent series.

15 abilities each? what is this... Kindergarten?A jack of all trades WHM... what is this 1989?
This is a false statement. As chocobo's, Cid, Airships, and the classic FF Jobs we are about to get, have all be consistent in some way in all FF. So, we can use them as example. You don't think the battle director for FFXI is not crossing some ideas over from FFXI, are building upon them for FFXIV. Auto-attack. you going to email the battle director and tell him this is FFXIV I don't want to see delay numbers on weapons. Because that is what we are getting.Using past FFs as an example of the way things should be is a flawed argument, as FF is not, and never has been, an internally consistent series.
